Everyone all worked up over this gov't shutdown, speculating its effect on this and its effect on that, and looking at markets during previous shutdowns. It is somewhat interesting, but definitely not something I'd bet my money on.

The markets repeat themselves every week (so bet on what you can observe in that context), its just that they don't do it EXACTLY the same as any other time. I mean, the pattern looks different, but the spots that a market will reverse at are always the same. It gets easier to spot this with practice and time. Not that I have it perfected. Plus, there's all other types of mistakes I've made even when I did know where a market was going. But I am trading better than ever.....we'll see what happens. Anyways, just my 2 cents.

If you draw the uptreand line from 2/25/2013, you will also see the line intersect the downtread line you are drawing. It is a big support at 96.9.

I don't know if I understand what just happened to this pair. I looked at the calendar and didn't see anything relative to this pair. What just happened? Why the spike all the sudden?

Sorry, I know it is probably a stupid question. I'm fairly new to this... well, been at it off and on again, but hopefully serious this time.

The source was Bloomberg, fairly reliable. The Nikkei had a decent spike but came all the way back down without the yen following it, so watch out.

well...all yen pairs can easily move 80+ pips up or down on any given day without anything on the calendar...so...

In my view there are two things you should always be mindful of:

1) If a move happens on a pair, there's always a reason for it (either you know about it or not - think sudden news, scheduled news, manipulation, whatever) - always trade what you see....

2) Each time zone (region) has their own subset of scheduled events (economical/news/etc) that are not listed by FF
need a news/event calendar provider
