For a newbie, how to start with a Demo acct and MT4?

You can adjust your strategies by demo.
Or you can invest some money into PAMM at the begining.
Put your money into different brokers or account managers to reduce risk.

Just open the MT4 account in any broker its absolutely free for demo accounts and then start implementing your theory.

The purpose of demo account is to develop the trading skills so that in real account we will be able to trade with proper plan and strategies to generate the reasonable profit from risky Forex market.

Of course, the demo account should be utilized to learn the ropes..and if you are planning to go live, would suggest that you start small,

You have the "go live right away" and then there's the "do the demo first" - both schools of thought are equally valid for different reasons, the first, allows an amateur trader to go live on a nano account and the later, is just perfect for beginners to learn more about trading, the platform, develop strategies, etc.
