IT WAS CALCULATE GAMBLE... i was short AU and EU and went to sleep with stoploss...NO RESCUE in sleep...

it rode against me and took my days profit off and some...

was a calulated gamble...Didnt paid off...

Dear fti,

need your advice, yesterday I was shorting and then rescuing EU. I couldn't finish the job and had to go to bed so instead of closing the trades I went long with number of positions I had(hedge). Woke up this morning and saw longs are in plus so I have now closed longs and back to rescue shorts. Would you recommend this way of closing the trades?

Hope you don't mind me chiming in but what's the point of opening an equal number of longs against your shorts? Closing your losing trades and starting again today would have had the same effect.

What you did is not hedging, it's just nonsensical.

when locking in a loss like that you are locking your brain as well.

next day you start with a loss and that will impact your mindset.

i believe you're just very lucky!!! it's pure luck and nothing else! you have a wrong perception and understanding of hedging and you need a very large capital to do what you just did. remember the saying 'if you cannot stand the heat, stay away from the kitchen' - to me if you cannot finish a battle, best not to go into battle. once you have a position, then you need your utmost attention... FOCUS and manage your exposure, be flexible, feel and pulse her, and go with the flow. when you are right and winning... don't put it to your head.... and when you wrong and lose.... don't put it into your heart.

be good and be safe... market is like crazy at the moment... don't let her skin you alive

That is a good advice my friend, looks like I have to do lot of work on trading phsycology. I know there was no point of going long could have taken loss and start today again.

Unlocking is very tricky stuff.
One day you may not find the right key.
especially if you rushing.

try go bed with clear blotter.
Better peaceful sleep.

In fact what you did was squared.
Only your mind still have position.
Blotter is squared.
Live in reality.

You termed it right, is a lock
Is not a hedge.

Same bad mindset in greece now.
In fact they already is in default.
Can term technical default.
Default but still have friend may rescue.
Default but lets squeeze the creditors.
In reality is already default. Alredy bad aura. Goodwill already lost
Can be AAA+ rated also won't do a thing.
Me, i won't lent them another cent.

Have not been on thread for a bit, have been busy with other matters. Sorry to hear about the recent news, I hope everything turns out well.

I would like to have an idea of the locking trades. Has there been any research papers or increased oversight into this?! This would make an interesting thesis which I need completed by senior year.
