Not a big thing, it was looking for the FFcal, not the FFCAL scooby.

Once I replaced it I got this:

2010.02.02 22:22:10 FFCal: cannot delete file Drogram FilesMetaTrader - Alpari UK_2expertsfiles2-2-2010-EURUSD60-FFCal.xml


I dont know whether that makes a difference, Im just reporting the start up. Anyway it seems to be happy. I'll leave it be for 24hrs.

not sure if this would matter but the EA posted above doesnt seem to calculate the SMAs. both 50 and 100sma are shown as 0.00.

'Tis a problem your end - I just downloaded the ea to check and it is working fine.

Hi Steve,
Just finished loading the MACD bot on a 5 digit crook. I also had to load FFCal manually in the indi folder to get the readouts to work. Looks good now as I quickly read the system.

HI Steve

I think you should change your screen name from SteveHopwood to "masterEAmaker". I know it is very early to come to a firm conclusion but the EA seems to be working fine (now we have to wait and see if the strategy will stand the test of time).

I used 18 pairs on 1H chart and this morning at 06:00 it had placed the first order CHFJPY buy 85.72, when I checked around 09:30 the price was 85.90 so I closed half the position and moved the stop to breakeven. I checked the other pairs and the EA had adhered to the rules. Lets see how it behaves for the rest of the week.

Brilliant. I can go ahead now and write the user guide stuff for post 1.

For now, use mptm if you want an earlier half-close/move to backup than the one used by the trading system. Later on, I can add this function to this robot if you feel it would be useful.

Your baby is running smoothly, another 2 pairs EURGBP. GBPCHF opened in accordance with the set parameters (NO error messages). Already banked 34 pips with the balance at breakeven. will use mptm as instructed.

You have done so much one feels guily asking for more. If get the chance in future (there is no hurry) it would be useful to add user set parameters for multiple currencies, rather than loading the ea on multiple charts. I think on the daily chart, trades will be few and far between, however, 4H TF may offer a more conservative set up and a decent number of trades.

MINOR PROBLEMS :

When the trade is going in the wrong direction and SL is hit, the trade is closed. However, shortly afterwards a new identical trade is opened, e.g.

11:00 GBPCHF short opened price 1.6835,
11:35 half closed, Price 1.6823 and SL Moved to breakeven,
13:03 SL reached and the trade closed,
13:04 because the price candle was still below the SMA lines and MACD direction indicating short, another short was opened price 1.6828.

One more minor point is that on two occasions on the chart MACD had not quite changed direction but on the screen useable MACD was indicating it had. please see EURAUD at 14:00

Otherwise had another good trade USDJPY, and EURAUD which is down.

This version shows the MACD value and direction on screen. "Down" means below 0 and crossed below within the previous 5 bars. Opposite for "Up".

I just realised I haven't coded the trade exit correctly - I haven't allowed a 10 pip cross of the 50, so I will sort that out later.

As to the instant re-entry, this will happen if conditions are still 'correct' for sending a new trade - this is the downside of using a jumping stop. Shall I code in a sleep-after-trade-closure function?

Sleep-after-trade-closure would be good idea to stop a repeat of a losing trade after closure during the same candle. This strategy may prove to be very successful and the EA has confirmed my observations of the last 7 days. Thus far 6 closed trades of which 5 were profitable and 1 loser!

Maybe the reason why it is opening so many trades is because of lack of the 10 pip rule (around 17:00 it opened another 5 positions!).

Other observations thus far are that non Volatile pairs and low spread pairs preform better. Maybe you should also allow for 4H time frame as well, however, you are the MASTER and you decide what ever is prudent.

P.S. Please see attached GBPUSD, I think at present it is looking for one fully closed candle to enter a trade, hence in this it entered at 17:03 price 1.5925. whereas ideally it should have opened the positin couple of hours before at around 1.5940.

The 10 pip thingy is part of the trade-sending decision process - I only forgot to add it to the trade exit decision making.

I will add the sleep thingy.

The robot trades any time frame. It simply warns the user that the strategy is intended for 1H and D1 charts.

Thanks very much. I will try the H4 as well with a different criminal tomorrow. Please see my last post which has been edited and a photo has been added for your information. Schlossberg states "Once the price has broken above the closest SMA by 10 pips or more..." whereas the EA counts the closed bars.I do not know if there is a way round it.

I always thought of it being just plain 10 pips above (and it seemed to work OK that way). this is the exact text from the book:

"The main premise of the strategy is that we buy or sell only when the price crosses the moving averages in the direction of the trend.
Rules for a Long Trade
1) Wait for the currency to trade above both the 50 SMA and 100 SMA.
2) Once the price has broken above the closest SMA by 10 pips or more, enter long if MACD crosses to positive within the last five bars, otherwise wait for the next MACD signal.
3) Initial stop set at five-bar low from entry.
4) Exit half of the position at two times risk; move stop to breakeven.
5) Exit second half when price breaks below 50 SMA by 10 pips."

However, you are far more knowledgeable than me and I stand to be corrected.
