As for the handle, pretty mundane really, just my initials with a random round number. Having read some of the stories behind handles on this thread, I feel a bit of a bore.

Crunchie and a cuppa and checking the charts

Watching and waiting..just checked this out as it's on my watchlist. I know, I know, no close of bars yet..just having a look.

Initial thoughts, if I am to trade, would be a low risk entry above 20 area of 72.65 SL below tail around 71.23 SL 142 pips and within my risk & loss acceptance of 1% (actual 0.7%).

I have also read Strat's posting about Sony's results..and this is a consideration and requires a close watch, however, we don't trade on news but PA... comments appreciated..Nicole

I would have liked to tell you what my Momentum Cycles position was but last night, while going into MT4 to copy my cycles program onto a Word file so that I could "tweak" it, I accidentally hit "delete" instead of copy! The annoying thing is that the "cycles" part of my "stuff" has been settled for 3 months or so and I just had a "what if" situation run through my head and thought I would see what the result would be. This proved a very costly "what if" moment as I did not have copies of my programs (although I thought I had). Needless to say, I have to recover 18 months of development work of which about 90% is in my head. The remaining 10% is the hard part - that was developed through many time consuming trial and error scenarios which I have to somehow recreate again. As a result of this, it shut down my cycles and momentum cycles so I am now cycle-less. (Cyclops might be a better description you say?).[/quote]

That’s a real bugger, have you tried doing a system restore in windows to a date a couple of days previous, it’s worth a try.

New and Exciting Developments

There are many things being planned on the thread to help those traders who want to LEARN as opposed to those looking for signals, entries and exits etc (free lunches). My theme and style remains the same – no spoon feeding. We will give you the materials, direction, guidance and instruction for YOU to DO THE WORK FOR YOURSELF. I have learned from my experience that you don’t learn anything when you are told or given something. The more you are given and told the more you want and the LESS you do and understand.

It is similar to a journey in a car where you drive to a new place. The driver HAS to DO THE WORK (get the car, prepare the car, plan the route, drive and park the car). The passenger just goes for the ride and gets the benefit of the driver’s work.

Now, take the passenger back to the starting point, put him in the driver’s seat and he is LOST, he has no idea where to go, what to do and how to get there. When he was the passenger, he didn’t have to get anything, he didn’t have anything to prepare, he didn’t have to plan, he didn’t have to drive and he didn’t have to park the car – he just probably closed his eyes fell asleep and waited to be woken up when he arrived at the destination.

This is a REAL situation not an analogy!

My “aggressive, suffer no fools, tell it like it is” style scares away the passengers so that all we are left with are the DRIVERS. Myself,and those in the “Strat Team", only want to work with DRIVERS. As long as you are a DRIVER, you are very welcome on here.

Most of the developments are going on behind the scenes but there is one we will be introducing at the end of this week and it is the “STRAT TEAM TRADE”.

I will provide details of this in my next post.

Just seen Cowboyings post and if you follow this path you may find your Meta file..

Crogram Files/ xxxx MetaTrader/ deleted

They should hold a reserve file on all Meta versions (my company is s/w & we s/w houses tend to hide files/keep what clients 'delete' just in case of such accidents!).

Alternatively, go to your recyle bin in windows..you can restore from there..

15 YEARS OF PASR ON FOREX FACTORY!
I've just enrolled for the Path of Learning and PMed Strat a little history about myself. Didn't want to clutter up the forums with it, but it may have merit to anyone thinking of coming aboard, so here it is:

Trading history (or lack of):
Started looking into trading stocks in summer '08. Started off bookmarking every trading site/blog/signal system company, etc, etc until I fell on the T2W forum where I moonlighted for a few months trying to understand how to trade stocks. Used all the indicators to try and find the proven system that everyone was using but not telling about (of course it doesn't exist). Read some books (Elder - Money Mang, PA; Faith - Turtle Trader; Murphy - Techincal Analysis)

Spent hours backtesting on Ninja Trader with all my half baked, very basic, indicator based systems, looking at crosses, ADX, RSI, etc, etc. Eventually I remember backtesting breaks of candle formations, etc, so at some point I definitely got into Price Action, but no S/R. I then drifted off into fundamentals, started moonlighting on Yahoo Stocks forum to hear more of the fundamentals side and realised I have no idea what people are talking about. I'm not yet an investor, and I don't like the way large stock holders can easily manipulate stock price, especially on lesser traded stocks.

Always knew of Forex Factory but never visited because I was adament about trading stocks and looked at Forex as kind of gambling. It was only after my home currency started tanking that I wish I knew more about Forex. So in my quest to get out of GBP (after the horse had bolted I might add), I started venturing into Forex.

So evetually started spending time on FF. Got some real time charts. Initially looking into systems. Takes the emotions out of trading, but looking at some of the draw downs, not for me. I need some logic behind the trades. Had looked into daily trading with PA on J16 thread but always considered daily too uncertain. Like, I couldn't possibly take a trade based on the daily because its just hoping price is going to move one way or the other. There's too much time between placing the trade and taking profits, between which anything can happen and send price the other way and hitting stops. I need to be on lower time frames, where I'm at the coal face, ahead of the daily, and more sure about getting in and out quick!!! Of course all wrong. I spent the last couple of months or more mainly on another journal thread trading 15m/1H time frames (with PA, S/R) but with mixed results and too stressful for me.

All on Demo so far apart from a couple of trades when I was desperate to get out of Sterling. Lost about £300 in the process (lucky), totally emotional trades scared of my savings going up in smoke.

Of course I was totally wrong about being on lower time frames, but the good news is I accepted price action is the way to go about 5 months into my research. After 10 months or so, I've now accepted longer time frames (daily and above) are the way to go, and are in fact much more likely to play out than similar setups on lower time frames.

Was dropping in and out of the thread from page 30ish, but have given it a thorough read through over the last couple of weeks and now have over 20 pages of notes from you, Nicola (elitejets), BlackEagle, Dan, and of course Baba. Big thanks to you all.

STRAT TEAM TRADE

What is a “Strat Team Trade”?

At the end of the NY market close each week, each member of the “Strat Trade Team” will individually review the markets and each submit their findings and suggestions to the team. The team will then get together on a “Skype” call and, after reviewing all the options, opportunities and risks, agree on a trade and post their findings for that trade on the thread.

What is a “Strat Team Trade”?

It will be the best or most interesting opportunity the markets present us with based on PASR and our other tools.

What a “Strat Team Trade” is NOT

It is NOT a recommendation to trade, rather, it is an opportunity to look at a trade through the “eyes” of experienced professionals.

It will NOT have signals, entries, exits or money management and instead will contain levels etc.

Conditions and Qualifications

The disclaimer to this thread on the first page and in the Index applies.

The “Strat Team Trade” will be based on the information available at NY market close on each Friday. Such a trade does not mean that just because the team has identified it, it has to work. There is no guarantee in trading and no-one has control over the trade other than the markets.

Individuals of the “Strat Trade Team” may or may not trade the opportunity presented with either their own funds or that of their clients.

Whether a “Strat Team Trade” is posted or not is entirely due to market conditions prevailing at that time. No PASR – NO TRADE.

hey strat,

good news that is! really curious to see what you guys are going to come up with!

here is a question for you and for the gang.

for me and surely for others the major challenge, the BIG BEAST - as you have acknowledged many times before - is the mental side of things. the emotions, the greed, the fear, the stress - all that ego-based stuff.

i have been into self-development for 20 years now - martial arts, meditation, nutrition, hypnosis, eft, nlp, tai chi chuan, challenging comfort zones, being present etc. etc. i even work professionally in the people development and change area, with folks from the big corporations (coaching, leadership development and stuff)

BUT trading is giving me a hell of a reality check! i almost see mr myagi shaking his head with friendly disapproval "sidson, back to wachs on wachs off!"

it brings out the WORST in me - i get complacent, lazy, stressed out, tunnel vision, addicted, restless, drained, exhilarated... which doesn't motivate effective behaviour of course. now RATIONALLY i know all that, but like when it comes to an addiction awareness of one's addiction is necessary but not enough to overcome it.

i'd be interested to learn a bit more in depth about you seasoned guys and how you have befriended the gremlins as you call them, or how you keep them in check. there is already quite a lot on this thread, but maybe you can elaborate a little bit more on how you progressed internally.

more specifically maybe something around:

how did you internally manage to switch to a higher time frame and letting go of the whole thing for the day, not monitoring it, developing patience, sticking to your system, dealing with greed and fear?

was it a gradual development in tiny steps or a couple of big leaps? what kind of help did you get with that? how did you develop confidence in your trading ability?

i have started experimenting with different strategies, some of have started to make a little bit of a difference for me. maybe something to talk about another time.

This is the big hurdle for me also, most people lose in the markets for one simple reason-they trade emotionally. The man in the mirror has a whole library of underlying physiological ambushes.

This is what attracted me to this thread Stress free when you trade the lower TF you are constantly analysing re-evaluating the market and the biggest fight is with yourself.
Strangely enough I’ve just started to re-read a book called The way to trade by John Piper. The book tries to explain why we do what we do when trading and goes on to help you discover your successful trading personality.

For me Strat summed it up nicely PLAN THE TRADE AND WALK AWAY: OK you need to know the basics of PA and S&R but when you pull the trigger you have a plan in place, that’s your trading strategy. By walking away you take the stress and the man in the mirror can’t see you or should that be you can't see him.

Now all I have to do is bloody PLAN THE TRADE AND STICK TO IT.

What you are experiencing is what each of us gets, some more than others depending on our personality, psyche, beliefs and strengths.

Trading psychology accounts for 90% of our success as traders. Those that don’t believe it have NOT traded real money. Everything about us changes when we put our money on the line. This is where you find out about yourself and WHO you really are.

The specific emotions we have to recognize, address and control are:

PATIENCE
DISCIPLINE
FEAR
GREED

PATIENCE and DISCIPLINE are the back bone to PASR successful trading and are major learning steps on The Path of Learning. We continually reinforce these on the thread in as many ways as we can. Each individual trader HAS to recognize why these two are important and then practice them daily. We MUST be patient in waiting for the correct PASR opportunity and the DISCIPLINE to trade ONLY PASR with our correct Money Management rules.

PATIENCE and DISCIPLINE will keep you out of “bad” or “high risk” trades.

FEAR and GREED are what hits the mentally unprepared trader as soon as his position moves away from his trade entry. Based on my struggles and fights with these two demons, what works for me, and most others, is having a PLAN. Not just any PLAN but a PLAN that you TRUST and BELIEVE in 100%. See my earlier detailed posts on Plan the Trade and Trade the Plan. This includes our thinking of LOSING first BEFORE winning. Our PLAN details what our loss will be if the trade goes against us and it is here, IN THE PLAN, that we deal with FEAR and GREED. We go through all the GREED and FEAR scenarios IN THE PLAN so that when finished, the PLAN has covered all eventualities.

Once in the trade, we just let the trade work itself out WITHIN OUR PREDETERMINED, AGREED & ACCEPTED PLAN. We let the trade run to its conclusion which will either be taking profit or being stopped out. WE DO NOT INTERFERE WITH THE PLAN.

If you have to interfere with your PLAN, it means your PLAN was NOT worth the paper it was written on. You cannot and should NOT trade without a PREDETERMINED, AGREED & ACCEPTED PLAN – EVER.

Look what happened to me on my experimental USDCAD trade – I thought because I was proving my Momentum Cycles I didn’t need one – WRONG.
The Professional Traders, Money Managers, Fund Managers, Banks, MMs ALL PLAN their trades and TRADE the PLAN without interference or deviation.

I strongly believe the PLAN is the only way to successfully control FEAR and GREED

Daily and higher time frames are what I trained myself on and what I “vibrate” around and feel “comfortable” in. When you have your PLAN, agree, accept and trust it, then there is NO NEED to interfere during the day. Your PLAN includes going from one daily CLOSE to the next daily CLOSE or to an agreed price level – there is NOTHING TO INTERFERE with. If you have to interfere, then you have a PLAN that you don’t believe in.

It was a HUGE learning process from when I started in stocks in 1982 to several years ago when I realized I knew more than the guy I had just purchased a $999 system from. You develop confidence by practicing, practicing, practicing, practicing, practicing, practicing and practicing, practicing, practicing, practicing, practicing, practicing. Then when you think you can do it in your sleep, do it on demo or a very, very small $/pip account.

Well i can see its getting quite steamy out there on the thread as to which way its going.......i have a new term........its "duke of yorkin".

Cause untill we get a nice bit of Daily price action we wont know in a million years so it must be a term we are looking for as up, down or sideways are "so last season darling"..

So im on to "investopidia" to update there file as follow:

"Duke of Yorkin":A term to discribe particular market conditions. When it was up....it was up.....and when it was down....it was down.And when there was no price action Baba didnt give a flying up or down........"duke of Yorkin"
