Thanks guys, very kind of you!

This inside bar breakout trading is very time consuming and a bit distracting regarding my daily job. In a search for something better I'll use now something more simplier - still breakouts but not with the need to look at the chart every hour.

I know, such a system switch looks ugly just after one month, but give me the chance.

Sure. The new strategy is simpler than the original one: Take the 30m candle at 8:00 GMT (so the candle from 800-830) and place an order above and below (like with the IB method). That's all. Pairs to trade: EUR/USD, EUR/CHF, GBP/USD, GBP/JPY. Other pairs work as well but that's enough.

The idea behind this approach is simple. I want to exploit the London and Frankfurt starting session after the first up and down and want to catch the daily trend. Surprisingly this works like a charm...

Sounds like an ORB (Opening Range Breakout). If you add a filter to that - say 20 Pips above and below the Range you might be able to have less losers and more winners. Have you read Toby Crabels book?

Ugh... I did a very very stupid calculation error in my backtests, so forget about that new stuff. Inside bars will fight back.

Hi Xaron, I am so curious about this Opening Range Breakout(ORB) strategy that I am going to forward test

If you noticed, there was a very good trade on GU based on NY ORB in the last session. Alas, I did not take it.

Now you confused me Xaron.

Please I hope you understand my post...I'm not trying to poke you, but I do read your posts here and at Oanda ( for a while now ) and you seem to be a reasonable trader.

Your profile states that you trade for more than 3 years and when you delineated your strategy I got really intrigued because I doubted anybody could make any money trading it. You are down for the month and I never heard of an experienced, successful, short term trader down for the month! Down for the day Ok, for the week..well...I've seen it. But for the month ? And even worse, by almost 10%!

You told us before that you have other accounts, and assuming you are profitable on them what made you change strategies for an account that will be as public, as this one?

If you trade long term elsewhere and if you are here trying to apply the same approach but in smaller time frames your account is done already, even if 90% or so of the money is still there.

What made you change strategies ?

I would suggest you trade what you know, or give the money still in your account to charity....by 2019 you will feel good you did

Bad day yesterday. I've drawn a line in the sand. Reached my critical first minus of 10%. Not good.

The cost-benefit ratio is horrible. I still think this will work in the long run but who knows? So for now I will trade a bit smaller and concentrate on 3 pairs. IBs for the EUR/USD, London breakouts for the EUR/CHF and GBP/JPY.

Maybe all those losses show currently that trading a pure mechanical approach isn't that easy. Give me some time, thank you...

sorry hearing that your first day after getting out of the sick bed was not successful.

I have to say my test strategy did not do well in the last 2 weeks either.

yeah xaron....the ib's haven't been good to us recently.
too much volatility. i'm waiting on the sidelines for the dust to settle down.
will be taking trades then and hopefully will update my journal when i take some trades

edit: and let me just say...stick to the method but lower the position size..better days have to come eventually. You (we;P) will benefit greatly when some nice trends arrive. And i'm sure they will

Hi Xaron, glad your health is better, sad to hear that your trading is not doing so well. Don't let it get you down my friend, tomorrow is another day. My Ģ20K account was down by over 4% but back up now to just under 0.2% down, hopefully back in the black tomorrow, as I am sure you will be shortly. Good trading.
