[EU ASSET MARKETS] Bonds and stocks still largely decoupled and both on the backfoot. However, Mar Bunds and Gilts have rebounded well from their 122.24 and 117.35 lows to hit peaks recently at 122.84 and 117.81 (ie 'only' 22 and 9 ticks adrift vs 82 and 55 ticks down at one stage) amidst reports of decent Japanese/Asian real money buying of the key Eurozone 10 yr benchmark and its US equivalent. Weaker than f/c German jobs/Eurozone M3 data may also have underpinned the EU debt market recovery, but supply still a issue to deal with, as Italy, the UK and US all have auctions today (Eur2.5-3.25 bn 2011/2019 BTPs, Eur0.5-1 bn 2015 CCTs, Gbp2.75 bn 2020 Gilts and $30 bn 5 year T-notes). Meanwhile, the Dax, FTSE and Cac-40 have retreated a bit further from yest's elevated highs to stand -48 to -68 pts) on some caution ahead of the US Senate vote on Obama's stimulus (expected to be a tougher hurdle than the House).

Man, I missed a good one because I had a 15-pip trailing stop on. Had a short at 3061, was gonna TP at 3031. For some dumb reason, I had decided to use TSL, even though I was watching it. Got stopped out for 0 FRICKIN' PIPS.

sorry to hear that... neither 80 or 60 stalled this thing much...if the stars are lined up we might be on a wave...gbp had already goin below nov last week.. eur/gbp showing eur weaker then gbp... might be a good ride...

Oh man, now I don't feel that bad anymore for waiting for a trade that was going against me, to turn an hour later, only to take 1 pip off the table, and then a minute later it ran for another 20 which would have been my original tp.

[EUR/USD] back to session lows (1.3028) on the back of Trichet's comment that the ECB has not excluded rates below 2%. (not entirely without precedent as Trichet has never set 2% as a limit). The comment does suit a relatively bearish market but a recent move to shorts is running into problems ahead of 1.3000 with Asian buyers booking profits on such weakness.

[EUR/USD] back to session lows (1.3028) on the back of Trichet's comment that the ECB has not excluded rates below 2% (not entirely without precedent as Trichet has never set 2% as a limit). The comment does suit a relatively bearish market, but a recent move to shorts is running into problems ahead of 1.3000 with Asian buyers booking profits on such weakness.

09:36 EUR/USD: Trichet Talks EZ Rates Lower - Spot Sold London, January 29. Talking to CNN the ECB President has noted he has "not excluded cutting Euro Zone to below 2%". The latest Trichet rhetoric is not ground breaking in sentiment but it does raise further questions over the legitimacy of any potential pause in February. EUR/USD has been sold back to new session and intraday lows as 1.3028 trades. Bids into the figure remain on the sonar so a crawl lower could be underway if the Euro remains pressured.

EU BONDS] hitting intra-day highs as comments from Trichet about not excluding rates going below 2% (not an entirely new view) give bonds an extra leg-up. [BUNDS] currently 122.94, -11 ticks, just off 122.98 high print and [GILTS] trade at 117.81, -9 ticks, after peaking at 117.86. Short end also getting an extra push with [EURIBOR] showing gains of between 2 and 4 ticks and [SHORT STERLING] now 12 to +2 going out along the strip. [FTSE] giving back a substantial portion of yesterday's gains and wallowing 86 points in the red at 4208 (lo 4202) and [DAX] off 75 points at 4442 (lo 4433) - both indices just above intra-day lows.

[EUR/CHF] off 50 ticks on the day (currently 1.5075) and now having given up all the strength that followed both leak and confirmation of record weakness for the KoF. More talk today of large expiry interest at 1.5175 was touted early on, but we only have larger 1.5000 expiries confirmed today and Friday. It is likely that most KoF led risk is already out of the market, but against a pretty sizeable slide for Wall St futs, we feel that a risk averse bias could see a challenge on Wed's low (1.5035) in order to clear away any residual longs. Expiries to dominate trade thereafter. Techs are bearish for a retest of last Friday's low at 1.4892.
