We are all encouraged to apply money management to our trades, but occasionally in the heat of the moment that is easier said than done.

So, we have to impose discipline on ourselves, I am therefore posting this money management script with screenshots and commentary below, particularly for the guy that lost $13,000 in the market last week.

The code is self expanatory, but the most important thing to remember is that this code calculates your lot size based on:

A) percentage risk which you input (default 2%)
B) Stop loss size. This may be either:
(i) A pip amount (default is 30 pips)
(ii) A specific price.

The script is placed in the /experts/scripts/ folder. There are 2 scripts one for longs and one for shorts.

So instead of clicking on [NEW ORDER] on the menu, you double click(or drag and drop) the script, and the screenshots below show the process.

You can use the MT editor to modify default stop loss and default risk (2%) to suit your profile, and in order not to have to change any of the settings when you want to make an order quickly. (Notice I have a 30 pip and a 50 pip setting)



The slippage has been placed at 4 pips, which means price cannot deviate by more than that amount (otherwise you would get a requote).

This thread started initially to discuss and develop trading the gbp/yen using Auslanco's system. It has transformed subsequently into a general analysis on trading gbp/yen using different techniques. This I believe is excellent, as we have all increased our knowledge by considering other trading styles. Or, as Pipimint would say, its like Chuck Norris only knowing how to round house kick and not know the eagle claw style...eh..Pipimint lol. This entire thread is like a required reading for a masters degree in Forex.

There has been some contentious discussion regarding whether a particular trading strategy works or not, and in order to assist some to develop an understanding of various strategies, I will explain how to \\\\\\"manipulate\\\\\\" the mt4 strategy Expert Assistant (EA) to \\\\\\"back-forward\\\\\\" test lol.

It is completely different looking back and seeing a chart with completed bars, as against one where we can't preview the results. A candlestick that closes as a full solid (marubozu candlestick), retraced, advanced, possibly turning into a doji before it completed. That completed beautiful trend looked like complete disaster when a few candlesticks were retracing. Indicators which look perfect, repaint. Re-paint, meaning that it moved an entry or exit point several times as price moved, what was supposed to be the bottom of a trend signal, moved down to a new bottom signal etc. If I had known how to \\\\\\"piggy back\\\\\\" on the strategy tester, I would have saved myself a world of hurt, several months ago.

Ok now, mt4 has a built in strategy tester called MACD Sample, we are going to use that EA to test the effectiveness of any indicator or strategy, (without having to write our own EA). The strategy tester has the great ability to take on the features of any template that is given its pre-defined name. So the first thing to do is to name the template you are going to be testing : MACD Sample. ( Make sure your template has been set to, Auto-Scroll )

Next, on the menu panel for MT4, there is an icon for \\\\\\"strategy tester\\\\\\", (looks like a magnifying glass). Click on it, and the strategy tester window comes up. In that EA window, click on the [expert advisor] form field and click on MACD Sample. You can look at the settings below to setup your EA.

For [Model], I use ticks or control points
[ Use date] Change to your desired date range
[Visual mode] Checked
The sliding bar indicates how fast the EA will process and the [play] / [pause] button to halt the testing.

Ok now, just click [start] TIP: Sometimes you may have to click the play/pause button after clicking on [start]

You can pause the EA at anytime when you see your particular strategy setup about to occur, ask yourself whether you would take the trade based on what you see, then press back play. If you use momentums for example, check what the momentums were at the start of a candlestick and then what happened after the candlestick closed, did the candlestick reflect the momentum prediction?

Unlike the rsi and cci, the qqe is a custom indicator which will require that you have the qqea loaded in your custom indicators folder.

You can click on the paper clip on the top of this page and do a [CTRL +F] to search/find the qqea file.

Remember to also enable [allow dll imports] on your indicator. I have posted the multi timeframe momentum below.
