If the market is not centralized?

Why do we all see the same chart?

If you look at stocks and shares for a company - there is only one place to buy and sell them, on the exchange - if you look at Level 2, you can see the orders.

Why is FX so different? I know we are in different time zones, etc and we are trading with different pairs.

We know GBP-USD - so is this centralized between the BOE and Fed, someone somewhere must know and is making a killing on the FX market for sure.

We don't all see the same chart.

Some have spikes at times where others don't.

And even when "they look the same" they are not. Because if you look at each exact minute bar you will see variations.

Garbage in, garbage out depending on the quality of the data feed rules!!

Ok so we have day HIGH and LOW of pairs, so what you are saying that every broker has a different HIGH and LOW price?

Yes its very common for the high's and lows to be a few pips different from broker to broker.

It also depends on what they consider to be end of the day. It could be 5pm EST or something else

Theoretically yes but most times, most brokers are within 1-3 pips of each others high/low.

The broker I use trades in fractional pips so they might be "x" nbr of fractional pips away from others.

In the big scheme of things I don't see a problem.

It's only a problem for people using indicators, because each broker will have give different signals on those. I remember seeing one thread here where trades had to be taken off ODL's charts, otherwise the signal might not even occur on another broker. Just another reason to use indicators for what they are intended, general reference to aid in reading the market, not trading signals.

I trade w/ multiple brokers during the course of the day, I've noticed the feeds to be pretty similar to one another, and both to be pretty close to CNBC's rolling quotes at the top.

Sometimes there's a small floating difference of a few pips (like one will be continually 3 pips higher than another during a particular session), but that's not a huge problem to compensate for. During news events spreads and prices can vary widely, so scalping the news is a crapshoot. Then of course no 2 brokers use the exact same time, so during volatile times or small time frames bars can vary from one to another. Also some brokers use a different daily start, so the daily candle differences can be significant.

So ya, prices can vary. But if you're looking at the big picture you won't have problems.
