Because of the relatively recent introduction of this currency I do have a problem with identifying historical levels on the EUR/USD and other euro crosses. It seems that each and every market data provider has its own opinion about how pre 1999 euro charts should look like. Having an access to about a half a dozen charting systems I can't find even two of them showing the same data on the the very major tops and bottoms in the past. Some even show that major historical levels, such as historical high on the EUR/USD for example, have been achieved either in 1992 (when USDX made a historic bottom) or in 1995 (when USD/DEM, USD/CHF and USD/JPY bottomed out). Given current trading levels, the accurate tech analysis becomes quite confusing and close to impossible because of these discrepancies. So, I wonder if anyone can provide me some info on the correct synthetic tops made in 1992 and 1995 with the exact description how it has been calculated initially. TIA

Igrok - Based on the data we have, the all time EUR-USD high was 1.4160, which was hit in Apr-1995. Different chart providers give different data because they are looking at different data's. Some compute from high of USD-DEM, and some from the closing levels. Closings too differ, as some take form NY closing and some from london closing.

Further, to complicate matters, I have even seen some calculating the EUR-USD data, exactly the way it was formed. That means, they are taking all former mother currencies (ITA Lira, FR Franc, GER DM etc etc) in respective proportion to get the data for EUR.

Thanks alot Vikrant. Seems it would be an impossible task to get the correct numbers as it seems there is no such a thing in existence. It appeares that the most reliable and least conroversial historical data for longer-term euro analysis could actually come from the USDX side which just has to be used as a proxi.
