One thing to keep in mind Marajo is what timing to use for your fixed bar. MeBob was originally traded with the ES/SPX 500 ?? I think ?

Anyways Gold opens at 820am NY time so you might find the MeBob 10:05 am bar to be effective or not ? I couldn't say for sure..

Some here trade the indices ORB whether that be 5min or 15min..etc

Personally I trade gold and use a 15min ORB... 820-835 Albeit in my own way.

Great info and examples on this thread... Fixed bar methods work on all instruments Marajo...

Main thing is sticking to one fixed bar timing on one instrument and test it thoroughly for the 20 trades or 20 days... Evaluate make necessary changes and do it again...

I use it to trade Gold futures. It should hold up to trading XAUUSD with speadbet-type bucket shops, but as with all bucket shop trading, it really depends upon the integrity of the bucket shop and the degree to which your bucket shop broker manipulates the spread.

If you are at all able to access exchange listed futures contracts instead of spread bet type brokers, I'd urge you to do so.

You can trade GC at $100 a point, or MGC at $10/point. But there will be differences between the two. I'd suggest charting and trading based on GC contract levels, even if you are going to trade the MGC micro contract.

As with any trading, you should sim trade first, and if you do make the personal decision to risk your hard-earned money, do so only with an an amount you can afford to lose.

Something I've been meaning to post. I was listening to TOP step TV last week... And I heard them talking about 1 minute ORB trades.

I didn't catch a lot of it and I'm not a regular listener.. but what I did hear was this.

They use a one minute orb on Gold and Oil. I believe it's a fairly tight stop just below/above the opening 1 minute bar...

The idea is that often enough the lower or high of the day is set off of that opening bar.

Call Brooks talks about this I'll be at not exactly the same. He will use 5min bars. But what Al does say is that 20% of the days are trend days.. where the high or low of the day is set of the opening 5m bar...

I like this concept just for the pure simplicity.. one would have to sit through many losing days I assume. And through smart trade money management I think this has great potential..

They did say they are not positive I have no idea how long they've been doing this.

I am not sure if they're using a simple close above the one minute opening bar or simply price moving past that to trigger entry.

There are all sorts of ways to trade a fixed bar or fixed time...

And what jogged my mind to post about this was a YouTube short video that popped up in my feet this morning.. Mr Larry Williams... And it fits to a tee the one minute ORB idea.
Do I agree with everything he says no... But I have a lot of respect for Larry

One could use a fixed profit target I suppose to mitigate the 80% non trending days. One for another 20 day trial at some point methinks -method and discipline together? I hate you Blue - I have a regular approach but I see stuff you post and think -hmmm must look into this

As I've said I'm just a squirrel after a nut or two !!

So many possibilities with Fixed bar methods...
1m 5m 15m orbs 30 sec.. hold till close...hold for fixed TP..

Not enough daylight to do it all Teeee...

It is crazy to think even if you never change the entry, there is still so many ways to exit. I am so close once again for the most recent 20 trades. I am slightly negative so far. With two trades to go, I am already thinking how I might change one thing.

So I get a private message asking "why can you only change one thing after you finish 20 trades?"

Because that is the only way to test and measure! If you change one thing, and results improve dramatically, it is fair to conclude that the credit for the improvement goes to the change. If you change one thing and the results go to pot, same thing: The change gets the blame.

But if you change two variables, then what? If results improve, which gets the credit? If the results fall apart, which change gets the blame?

This is the scientific method applied to edge development. After an experiment, e.g. 20 trades, then change one variable to test that one variable.

So I have one more trade running which will not put me in profit even if it is a winner. Here is my requirements for a trade and how I handle the TP.

1. I open a long after a break of the high of the 9:30 AM EST 15 minute bar and vice versa for a short.
2. My TP is 1:1 R:R. So the TP is the same distance as the SL.
3. If my first trade is a win, I don't open any more trades for the day. Otherwise I open one more trade on the opposite side (if my first trade was a short, I wait for a break of the high to go long.
4. Any trades that are still running at 4:00 PM EST get closed at that time.

For my change I am looking at changing the SL to 61.8 fib instead of the full candle as you can see below. I need to do a bit more testing to see if this works out better.
