MT4 - Terminal window in separate window?

I just backed up all my folders, uninstalled the bloody mt4, reinstalled it and then replaced new folders with the backup and voila!! MT4 was back to normal

Hey guys,

I was having the same issue on my Mac and found the best solution yet!!!!

If you are on a mac, Open the Finder and Search for the folder named "Metatrader 4". You can use the search bar to look up the folder. Inside the folder you will see the "config" folder. It contains all the configuration you have set on the MT4. Open the folder and DELETE the "terminal.ini" file. When you start your MT4 again, it will re-create this file with the default values. SOLVED!!!!!!

This really helps. There is also another way to delete 'terminal.ini' file.

Follow these steps:
1. In the MT4 app - click File. It's at the top left corner.
2. Then Click Open Data Folder
3. A pop up folder will come out. Click on Config folder
4. You will see the file 'terminal.ini' in the config folder. Delete the file and you are done.

So I just had this issue post Monterey (Mac OS 12.0.1) and I was unable to resolve this rather annoying predicament.

Here are steps that totally worked.

 

  1. Go to the Metatrader installation directory and click on the CONFIG directory.
  2. Rename the file TERMINAL.INI to TERMINAL.OLD
  3. Restart Metatrader
  4. On restart Metatrader creates a new TERMINAL.INI file
  5. I had to get rid of the alias file that was there and I shut down MT4 before changing the name.

I don't have a clue what I did, but after screwing around with the terminal box, I finally got it back to it's initial setup. But it's now at the top of the chart. Which is fine, since I can't move it or else it goes back to the little box where nothing can be seen except iddy bitty columns.

It's stupid that Mt4 has had this same problem since 2007.

Indicators disappear as well.

I'm using a 2020 MacBook Air with 8 gigs of memory and Hugosway as my broker for paper trading. I thought I had work arounds for most of the issues until this morning when my Terminal had its hissy fit.

Can anyone tell me if the MT4 works better once a funded account is used?

I'm planning on loading windows on my Mac using Parrellels and then downloading the window's version from Hugosway to see if MT4 becomes more stable.

Any thoughts, opinions or suggestions about any of the info provided would be greatly appreciated. I'm using mt4 because I understand that it's about the only Forex platform that allows custom indicators.

I also have the Macbook Air M1 8GB RAM.
1) MT4 will work on Mac whether it is a funded account or not. It makes no difference.
2) I tried Parallels on the Macbook and didn't like it for the following reasons:
- Have to pay annual fees to Parallels to use their software
- I didn't like Windows 11 on ARM. It keeps telling me that I am using a trial version and need to enter the Product Key - even though the Windows 11 ARM is a trial version.
- Parallels allows you a 10 day trial. Suggest you try it before paying for it.

I have had the same issues as above.

I have found if I don't move the terminal and other menus around they remain as they should it's a quirk of wine/code weavers etc that causes it imho.

You don't need to pay for anything if you install from this link.Read the explanation from Metaquotes.. Just input your broker details for server etc

Hey all. I have found a solution to this problem and I am using a mac.
Hopefully it solves the problem for you all too.

On the new small separate terminal window, there will be a thin dark grey area between the top of the tab, (where the word 'terminal' is) and underneath where the other sub-tabs are. Click on this and drag it to the area on the chart where you would like it to be attached.
Here is what it looks like. Hopefully this helps you all as well!

Just had this issue and this was the only way I was able to get that undocked tab back into it's place. You basically just need to go to View > Toolbars > Customize > Then move the line separator, "up" to the top of that section > Then drag the bottom left of the undocked box, up into its appropriate place. Should work!

Please can someone show me step by step on how to add ichimoku indicator on subwindow MT4 in PC.....I want to add it where RSI or MACD is..... please help me....

That worked perfetcly. Thank you.
After all these years, it's still happening. I was searching on here for a solution, the drag to the bottom corner must work on pc, not on Mac. I was able to fix mine after a few months, lol....

Open MT4>Select File>Select Open Data Folder>Select config>Close the MT4 Window(the config folder should remain open>Delete "terminal.ini">Close the config folder>Reopen MT4. It worked for me. Happy New Year 2023.
