When I make a wining trade, I don't trade the following day, when I make a losing trade, I don't trade the next day. What I learn is that our mind loose objectivity when troubled by euphoria or revenge. Instead of trying to win the max amount, it is better to trying to find the best possible entry on the market... and of course money management is mandatory....

Me too avoid immediate trading action when I win. I consider as psychological overbought state in which chances of being over confident are very high. I wait for one unit time like Day, H4 or H1 before starting the next trading actions. In between study of market is a key.

hi same

I have also gone through days of losing even double the amount you lost.

what I found worked best is to COMPLETELY STOP trading for at least 1 week to clear my head.
Then do "mind trading" without real execution for another 2-3 days
Then make small low leverage positions to actually make back a tiny portion of the losses.

I suspect you were probably leveraged very highly. Its tempting for all of us. The reality however is that leverage will murder us eventually.

good luck

in my opinion you better take a break from Trading real and go to demo account. Many brokers offer demo account. The most painless method to making money in my opinion is to go watch monthly charts is the currency is trending or not. I watch monthly charts with 5 & 10emas to see a strong trend. On daily i use same emas but 200ema is on daily same than monhtly 10ema You see easy is it going up or down. Indentify the monthly trend! you can time the trade with pullbacks on daily buy low or sell high or what i do is i Place sellstop order below support on a falling market and buy stop resistance on a uptrend…. this is the best advice i can give you. I have tried lower timeframes and lost lots of money too. Shorter than daily charts is just daily fluctuations to me.. need to find right setup happen before taking a trade

and dont use tight stoplosses.. if the trade is good you are in positive quickly if losses only get bigger and bigger and you see big candles going against you its not good to hold the trade

20 years ago, during the internet bubble, invested all my savings, about 40000 Deutsche Marks, it topped to 110000 DM. 3 years later I sold my last stock for exactly: 13 DM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lost everything. AFTER that I started studying, opened a Forex account with 1500 EUROS, and kept loosing consitently every year, but little. Studied (and still do), literally tens of thousands of hours.I just really like trading. Finally, about a year and a half ago I broke even, last year had a solid, but small profit.

honestly if after your first loss you had invested the time in learning a new trade you would have made much more money over the last 20 years. Sad to say, your example illustrates aptly that we should not invest too much time or money into the FX gamble, unless we have "excess" money to play with.

I'd suggest the same to the OP.

Don't even think of making Forex your "main" income.
Don't even think of putting your "main savings" into a forex broker!

A small piece of advice:
1- build an idea and skills to run a real business / profession
2- put 30% of your savings into a house in an area which is NOT overpriced by the real estate bubble
3- put another 50% in an index tracking ETF that spreads your savings across multiple sectors.
4- If you have a little money and some free time... play around the FX market to make some "beer money" for fun.

Once you've made enough money and security in 1,2,3... and you have a LOT of excess capital free. you can increase your position in FX.

It's not about stop losses, emotions blah blah, rather ask yourself these 2 questions

1. Do I have a RULE BASED system that has proven to be profitable through backtest results?
2. How efficient am I trading this system? Do I take EVERY trade following the rules? Do I miss trades or trade only when I'm free?

Answer these questions first if you attempt to start trading.

How did this even happen ? What are you other skills ? Are you good at web design, web development, software development ? Internet marketing or stuff like that ? Just leave what you are doing now and switch to those I recommend, you are now in failed state and don't need that all.

As several members have already said, you need to stop trading at the moment. At this point, I can assure you emotions are now involved after your losses, and I've never met or heard of a successful trader who trades while emotional. Fear, greed and anxiety are developed at times like these and you never want to trade with these sort of feelings.

When I first started trading, I won my first four trades. I made 20% my first week. I acquired my first lost. I did a rookie mistake and let emotions sit in. I ended up losing another 5 straight. I win from 4-0 to 4-6. Of the 6 losses, 5 of them were based on emotions. I took a week off and came back to win 5 straight.

Erase your emotions or the market will erase your gains.
