The euro has been selling off nicely today. Technically, a failure above 1.15 attracted sellers, followed by some dovish comments from ECB's Weidmann on GDP and inflation projections...

if the Profit Factor not showing anything, that is exactly the risk taken vs the results!!
whoever wrote that definition has no clue!!

if you take 2 trades, 1 makes 100 pips, the other lose 50 pips, all equal, your PF=2.
what this never include that is your risk.
this PF=2 will be the same if there is zero DD on the winner, and -50 on the loser....
or
this PF=2 will be the exact same, but maybe both trade went against the trader 300 pips before turning, and allow him to close in a win or loss.
that drawdown is the risk, that was never addressed properly, not by the Profit factor, for sure.

more,
while higher the PF number the more desirable it may be,
the fact is a trader's losses are covered with virtually any PF number >1.
after all, PF is: total gains(profit trades) divided by total losses (loss trades).
once again, nothing and nowhere refer to the risk.
literally turning around from margin call territory has not a tiny impact on PF, as it only factor closed trades.
when comes to risk,
maybe VAR ( Value at Risk) is a lot better indication, and probably worth to consider along the PF.
or holding time.


finally,
an example
if your system is 20TP, and 14 SL....and you have a Win% of only 50%
would you be profitable?
i dont know what the author would answer, but i could take to eternity that!

January closed with a 3.34% growth (over only two weeks of trading); it was the 5th consecutive profitable month for the showcase account, and the 27th consecutive profitable month overall.

As expected, the milestone of 1k in profit on the showcase account has been reached this week.
