By themselves, no, I don't think indicators are designed to do this. However, as 7bit has explained above, the indicator itself can be accessed by the EA through iCustom. So in that sense, yes, an indicator can be used to trigger an EA, except that it's based upon the EA's interpretation of the indicator's signal. The indicator just provides the signal. The EA evaluates it and performs certain functions and operations accordingly.
Understand. I thought it may be possible to do it vice versa as in batch/cmd files executing other files/commands ie the indicator starts the EA. Why couldn't it be as simple as that ? 
What about scripts. Is it the same for scripts? ie an indicator generates a signal and calls a script to buy or sell?

I think the important thing is that you can get the two to run simultaneously (and no, you don't have to put the indicator on chart, just make sure it's in indicator folder) and get the EA to access the indicator. And no, indicators are not designed to "make the call," this is what the EA is supposed to do. Neither do I think you can use a script to call up an EA. The script is generally called up (or accessed) by the EA as well. I'm not 100% sure of this, but am reasonably certain.
