My selection process is becoming very particular. I used to support Medecin sans frontier, then I found out they are facilitating the North African exodus.

So.... I shall keep doing the Postcode Lottery who support a list of charities. Beyond that I have reduced to the Haig Fund and some local hospices.

One of the prospects that I am currently reviewing is Alibaba Group. They are quoted on Nasdaq and other places using the ticker symbol BABA

In the theme of globalism they are also listed in a few European stock exchanges, where they have chosen a culturally enhanced ticker

Thanks for your answers; my only 'interest' was that as I come to the end of every tax year I always donate (not huge amounts understand) to a range of charities (RSPCA, Oxfam, Cancer Research, Great Ormond Street...), however, I am increasingly concerned with how some of that money is spent and where so I noticed that I take longer to decide.... and I had simply wondered if you had views on any of them or knew of researchers that reveiwed these things to check money was being well spent and not going to waste.

Children in Need have £100mil in the bank. I have a real problem giving money to them or any other charity nowadays for that matter. I had (now been skipped) a whole garage full of baby things, furniture, toys etc., good as new, worth god knows how much new and none of the charities wanted it. They only wanted cash. Guess what for, I wonder. I talked to my kids about Children in Need and told them the hard facts. They decided they would not wear their pajamas to school on pajama day and give £1 each to Children in Need. I told them it was good to be different; that you needed to make your mind up for yourselves and not follow the herd.

Anyway, don't we give enough through our taxes... remind me, how much in foreign aid? What percentage of GDP compared to other countries? Not my fault they waste it.
