I am trying to find out on the 5 minute charts. I've had it at 250 bars back and the indicator was moving up. I had this with the moving averages. I bought the euro. Then there was a massive sell off. How can I get a good confirmation of an up trend or down trend? Thanks for your help

Here is non-repainting version of COG - you can adjust parameters to current market situation on any pair.

Also you can read this http://www.forexfactory.com/t/120034...-system-1.html

The JB COG plots a different curve to the COG in this thread. That's because it uses a completely different math formula. The latter is actually a polynomial regression - see my posts (#17, #18) in that thread for more info.

BTW, just because an indicator 're-paints' doesn't mean that it can't be used profitably, or at least operate as a component in a profitable method. All re-painting means is that the value of the current plot X candles ago wouldn't have been the same as it was when that point occurred, in real time. Of course that makes visual backtesting meaningless.

MT4's stardard deviation channel is a good example. The lines will move as more data gets added to the RHS of the chart. But I know of at least one trader who uses the SDC as part of his profitable method.

Pivot levels are another example. If your pivot indicator simply plots today's S1,R1,etc levels right across the chart, then they will be different to those that were plotted yesterday. That is the same principle as 're-painting', i.e. yesterday's plot is no longer viewable, and it would be spurious to use today's levels to visually back-test yesterday. But that doesn't stop some traders from using pivot levels. Exactly the same reasoning applies to Fibo levels and candle high/low based S/R.

Can you please share the indicator here (if it is available for free)! I have actually never used this indicator, but I would like to test it in demo!

Well, nice to know your parameters on BB, but can you please mention the pairs name actually? Or you use randomly?

Self-proclaimed, Best Trader in the World, lol, Mustafa Belkhayate, supposedly sells the system he actually uses and it uses COG. I am going by memory, but I think it is 126 periods. The second indicator is a separate window RSI line that changes color according to its slope. His is much fancier and colorful. Have fun.

If I get result with a specific parameter, that doesn’t mean it will also work for you! So better, practice with different parameters & collect the best one.
