Mate, your'e one of the best traders on Forex Factory because you trade the SETUP as it should be played.
Correct entry and NO exit until the Setup tells you to exit.

Most traders get into a nice profit and cut the profit short because of fear of watching their unrealised profits slip away in their mind. I know because I suffered with this thought process as well for years before I started my trading preparation session before I start trading.
I trade on a DOM without charts for 30 minutes (DEMO) before I trade live to apply pressure to my mind. I place myself in a major draw down to place a negative pressure on my mindset. I want to feel extreme negative emotion for a period of time to condition to remind myself what PAIN in trading feels like. Believe me trading ES on a DOM is painful because the readings change about 10 times a second so its all about "average blur"
Then I quit the DEMO chart and move over to the Live charts and its like a great burden has been lifted from by mind and I find Clarify in my thought processes thereafter.

I use intensive negative emotions to stir me into the right positive trading mindset on a live chart. Then when I start trading live - I remember correctly what I should be doing - that's staying in a position for as long as possible (Exiting on a signal is also correct)

So your a great trader in my eyes.

Further more - here is a good trade I took on Friday open on US500.

I traded the entry well, didn't get faked out at the pullback (although I should have added here) and exited at the cross of the 21EMA.

A+ for me
A++ would of being if I added at the pullback.

Of course I take a few losses, that's trading.


On Friday, I wasn't trading from my home base in Brisbane where my Future's Setup is but was trading from a Unit down the road fro me at the Gold Coast. It's kind of like a small Miami. So there I was with a Cold brew Coffee in one hand, my trusty laptop in the other and trading the US500 on a balcony overlooking the surf on a dark night. I took the entry because the Delta was Bulish about 500 contracts for the first 5 minutes of open and didn't let up (Future's data on my iPhone lol) so I trusted the indicators on my chart were good.

I took the Buy - didn't get faked out and took the win.

Didn't trade again that night. (lucky one trade really)

Cold brew was nice

Used to trades a similar charts years ago used 5,8,13, and 21 ema's with a triple overlay of RSI 3,8 and 21 which is great for seeing reversals and the TTM squeeze indicator. It's a good system. I tend to change things up, I love to tinker around.
Spend last 2 days recovering from Halloween it was 1 incredible party.

All of the indicators are meaningless as they show past and not the present or the future.

I do use 1 indicator, just for the sake of having one.

Indicators that show potential entry is also meaningless, as no one have any ideas what price will do next second. Entry into the trade is similar to flipping a coin, 50/50, PA can go up or down, no clue. Yes, trend is important but you can clearly see a trend based on PA without any indicators.

As I stated before, controlling MM and controlling MindFuck(Fear and Greed) is what separates 5% successful traders from 95% of unsuccessful traders.

I decided to post my October equity, so you can see what real trading looks like. Lots of gains and losses, stuck to my plan for each of the 106 trades for total of +20% in Profits.

Slow start to the day. I can get up at 7 now to trade, from 7:30-10. thanks to DST. PA early was a little jumpy at open but then went flat. I had a bunch of small
trades then finally caught a huge win and called it quits for the day. Markets are a little weird over the election tomorrow.

A Trump Trade for 150 points! Dow Futures 5 Min TF.

Again good movement at the open followed by a lot of sideways movement with tiny wins a losses. The got caught up in obsessing over election news. Anyway been long done for the day.

Forgot to post my last 2 trades. Got sidetracked, outside this morning and I smelt gas. So spent a couple of hours checking pipes and connections for leaks. Finally found it, then off to plumbing supplies to get new connector and hose to fix the problem. My wife gets mad at me for doing the work, but honestly, I've never found a plumber down here I trust. So, I do it myself or supervise. Last 2 trades a bullish divergence and then a continuation trade.

Im affraid pure mechanical systems based on simple indicators do not work anymore or sometimes work sometimes not = random

Why would you come here and criticize a strategy you have probably never actually traded.
The old saying - "just because you have had little success with mechanical systems DOES NOT mean other traders aren't profitable with mechanical system".

This system works fine if you entry a trade after a squeeze in the direction of the breakout AND LET IT RUN till the momentum stalls.
If you can develop a mindset of NOT TOUCHING the bloody trade till it crosses back over the 20 EMA - you have just successfully traded against 90% of retail traders
and kicked their arse.

Its not actually the entry that makes this system work - its the guts to hang in their and let the Ticks grow till the setup ends.

This is why a lot of good traders will take a trade and then just leave the PC to let it either hit target or stop so I've heard.
If you are staring at the charts waiting for price to cross the MA for an exit you might just find a reason to convince yourself to get out before that happens.
For this reason I've made myself a small GUI which can toggle a strategy which will close the position automatically on a close beyond the MA.

For the most part pretty sedate PA, 3 solid trades followed by a small win and loss. Then 2 more small wins and time to call it quits for the day. I added some notes to the charts to show what I was seeing.

RP, do you generally open positions at bar close, and close open positions anytime ? ( with BB trigger of course )
Appears to possibly be the case on my analysis of your closed trades.
That said, I do understand there’s a fair bit of experience, thus intuition in your trading

Yes I will generally open trades at the candles close or maybe within 10-15 seconds of close, Sometimes the trigger finger gets itchy. yes you are correct about closes.
