I am interested in suicide among discretionary retail traders, who usually suffer the greatest psychological and financial distress and would be less likely to attract major news coverage. Does anyone have any articles or anecdotes to share about retail trader suicides?

I am interested as well, cannot find too much regarding forex suicides.

But there are documented crypto suicides. Usually when hopes are too high they can be shattered really badly.

Never read any article about this issue! But, I think the percentage will be very low. Because; most of the new traders start their trading with a huge lose!

At one point -25 years ago- concert violinists had the highest suicide rate of any occupation (not sure if that's still the case). There weren't nearly as many retail traders around back then, but the two pursuits largely parallel each other. 8-10-12 hours per day practicing, having to push yourself because no one else will do it; making the phrase, "I can't, I have to practice" your standard response whenever someone wants to make plans with you; having to be painfully self-critical and man-up each and every mistake; having dreams and aspirations of a level of success and eventually having to settle for something less; deciding at some point you're going to do 'the responsible thing' and get a real job and 'continue doing it on the side'.

Sounds familiar?

Yes it does.

Spot retail forex is a silent killer ... For a few, it's a cancer that takes time to grow over many years and that cannot be talked about.
You can see the tip of the iceberg and all seems ok but below the water line is an enormous mass of dead bodies (many figuratively and a few literally)

True.
But one should strive to survive well.
Some activities are detrimental to good survival.

Why would anyone commit suicide if they're making money? If they're risking more than they can handle they can always just decide to stop losing so much...

Trading is simple. All you need is a horizontal line. Just ask The Rumpled One.

I truly do not have a response for this...
Perhaps an analogy might help

So you have terminal cancer ?
Well, all you have to do is get better, ok?

99.9999 % lose in forex and the winners of today become the losers of tomorrow

In this population you will have extreme cases on both ends.

99.999% ?
That doesn't seem realistic

He is correct... 99.999% lose.

.001% die before they lose.

And roughly 10% lose but do it with enough style and grace that they win.

Good analogy but silly solution. I do not think that for a good man death is a terrible thing.

I'm sure you don't mean to, but you're inadvertently trivializing the reasons for suicide. The Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who killed himself a few years ago, was very successful, very popular and very wealthy. People who are suicidal very often feel painfully alone, and can even feel alone at their own birthday party surrounded by friends and family who sincerely love them.

{quote} Those feelings are trivial... We're all alone in this world and were since the day of our birth. Some people just do a better job of convincing themselves otherwise because they're afraid to stand alone. They also tend to lose money in the markets.

You don't get it, but it's a good thing that you don't get it.

Edit: Pardon me, you added the second paragraph. There are different reasons for suicide, and certainly part of dealing with it is being tough, but that's a simplistic way of looking at it.
