I just did a manual back test for the past year on AUD/USD and USD/CAD I ignored gaps of <10 pips. I used a 50 pip SL. Oanda platform. I do not know if Oanda widens the spread at the Sunday open. I'll have to wait until next Sunday to find out. AUD/USD 15 trades 15 W +253 pips 0 L +253 pips net. USD/CAD 23 trades 20 W +416 pips 3 L -150 pips +266 pips net

You don't have to wait until Sunday OANDA does widen the spred at Sunday open .... no liquidity

This is a strategy I have tried in the past, with mixed results. What discouraged me was the issue of spreads. With my broker the spreads are way too high at this time, even after 15 minutes. By the time they stabilize, after 30/ 45 minutes, the equation is different. That is why I gave it up.

Like you said a fixed spreads broker would be the way to go.

I didnt go test the strategy but if it was really that easy, everyone would be doing it. Its just too generic and I doubt it is true what some of posters are saying. Show some proof or this thread is a waste of time. Anyone can claim anything but if there is no proof, it doesnt exist...

I use this strategy for a few years....and it works perfectly...for those who want proof or statistic, why dont u look at weekly chart and observe the close of the candle and the open of the next candle.....among all pairs there is only one pair that fill the gap consistently within a week....do your homework and u will see the light,..

Its funny how there are always people, who claim they found a system that works perfectly. When you ask for proof, they find some lame excuse why they dont want to post it. It happens every time...

You dont know anything about me so you cant call me lazy. I am not claiming something and cant provide any proof of it what so ever. Until you can do that, I can call you a liar because you claim something that you can not or will not back up.

Besides, if the strategy is really that good and effective, why are you on Rookie talk and not on a beach enjoying the warm water and drinks? I mean after all, you only trade the gap which means you should only work a few minutes a week and yet you spend your time on FF during the week. Something doesnt add up here LOL...

So prove your strategy by posting your TE or stop lying to people.

Peace mate

hi,
I just went quickly through E/U. Most gaps are closed. some only nearly (on 2. Oct -1pip!). And some not at all. What am I doing with those?
I guess my TP is at Friday closing minus spread? Where do you set a SL?
Thanks for your advice.

Moved to Rookie talk. LOL. Check my bio and take advantage. But please do yourself a favour and backtest this. No repainting, no BS. The only thing you have to do is make sure you have a broker with fixed spreads.

So what broker for fixed spread is reliable ?

Thank You.

Best regards

Hello every one
I went through 2017 so far for all 7 pairs with the following conditions (Broker XM)
-no trade in gaps less than 10 pips(Fri-close to Mon-open)
-the average spread 4pips
-If TP/SL did not hit , close the trade at Fri-close
the result was disappointing, -78 pips

BUT

If we add following conditions :
-on 1H chart if TP/SL did not hit before the end of candle 12, close it
-do not trade if Mon-open is between Friday last 1H candle H and L

the result is : 729 pips in 41 weeks. average 17/week

P.s.find in attached the calculation excel file

Gap-close trading is a long tradtion in the markets.

But you need to clarify what "Friday Close" means. If Fr Close is Bearish and Mo Open opens with a Gap above Fr Open ... Where to put your target?
