So... I have 5 years of experience, I know price action, I know how to trade with trend, I know how to manage risk, etc., but I still don't have a strategy. Is this normal or it's a waste of time? I'm not looking for a holy grail, but for something really simple with 50% accuracy at 1:2 ratio. 3-5 trades per day during EU session and that's all. The user bloodpoodle says it best with his signature: "The only system that will work is one designed by and for yourself."

If you haven't tried yet, perhaps try to develop a system completely by yourself because honestly, I don't see any beneficial reason for anyone to sell anything and or completely spell out a system unless at some point they've realized that information is inherently flawed and their DNA makeup allows their conscience to be OK with selling a flawed product to others.

I find it ironic that you know a lot but couldn't come up with or find a strategy. You are here in a place where strategies are being devised almost everyday. Some work, some don't. Some are being improved continuously. Others will work for trader A but not for trader B. I've seen many trading systems/strategies here that can do the job of making pips. I studied those systems/strategies that I know would fit my personality. I learned the rules and practiced trading with them but after sometime I realized they just won't work for me. I went on with my journey. I found other more trading systems/strategies, studied them, practiced and realized again they were not for me.

But this time of the year I've already found systems/strategies that work well for trading and for me. These systems/strategies does a good job of making pips if you ask me. I really didn't have to develop my own strategy. I just had to find what's available here on FF and there are many here. And yes, there are systems/strategies that work here on FF. They are made by people who have been here in this business not just for five years but decades. They've been there and done that. They've succeeded and failed and failed and succeeded. To me this was a great thing. I could simply capitalized on the experiences of these people because they've been here even before I was born. Because of this finding a strategy didn't became that hard for me and it's also because I know what I want. I prefer simple trading systems with not too many indicators. I wanted a trading system/strategy that could help me identify trends before or when they have already occurred and hopefully catch a few pips along the way or even trade the whole trend until it ends. And here on FF strategies are free. That's got to be the best thing.

Visit these threads HERE, HERE and HERE. To me these trading system/strategies work well. They're not perfect but they work. Couple that with discipline and patience these strategies/systems will do the job of making pips. And I'm hoping you would be comfortable with them and they might work for you and might put an end to your search.

I am curious. So some of the strategies were in the public domain and were still profitable.

I mean i heard both sides of the argument that once a system is out it loses it edge and on the other hand that Forex is so huge, it wouldn't make a puny difference even if a strategy is made public.

You have first hand experience. What is your experience with respect to the trading edge of a system you found on FF? Did it deteriorate?

I think the odds of the game are so much against you. To squeeze your way out of an edge is a real miracle. Don't mind the amateurs on ff with bold unverified claims.What I know for sure is that a good edge(system) will never be advertise. I choose edge because its more appropriate, you can't follow rules like a robot, cause you are dealing with human emotions(markets). You probably are looking for a framework that puts the odds in your favor. Following the trend is a framework. The main problem with trend following is that when a trend becomes apparent by most market participants, it's a time bomb- ready to spill its content any moment.

To expand further, the edge is to spot a trend before most market participant and getting out when it becomes apparent. The reason why you have not being successful following the trend is that; you get in when its obvious to the dumbest traders that there is an existing bias. That's what is called an edge- A framework that gives you a competitive advantage over the market( Which is not charts but a bunch of people who do not wanna lose money). You are trying to outsmart them as a whole, what are your odds? Very slim,very very slim, in fact you have to squeeze it out.

Giving you a precious key and understand I am 99% sure it wont help you, But I believe in improbabilities that's why I am a trader. You need to answer three questions.
1. Do I have an edge if I BUY?
2. Do I have an edge if I SELL?
3. I have no edge at the moment cause I don't know more than the next guy.

SIMPLE!!!

P.S Forget about the win ratio, once you have an edge the win rate is determined by your risk to reward ratio.

Have you tried visiting the link to those trading systems? Check them out and learn. I'm currently demo trading those systems and their working pretty well but it should not stop there. I will continue demo trading to see how I will do in the long run. These strategies/system have been here since last year so I couldn't say if it's at the point of deteriorating. Heck I don't even understand the argument about trading systems losing their edge when they're made public. Why and how exactly does a strategy deteriorates when it's made public. I'll do a reasearch and see what I can learn and maybe perhaps you can enlighten me as well.

As far as trading edge is concerned you will only know if a strategy has an edge if you trade it demo or live. Trade it for yourself and do all the hard work required in learning and applying a strategy.

To add more if a strategy looses it's edge once it has been made public then what's the point of FF? Everything here is shared publicly. Now if I were able to somehow come up with a strategy of my own and I know that it would deteriorate when I made it public then I'd just keep it to myself but that isn't the case here in FF. Strategies and systems are being shared publicly everyday. To know and prove if a strategy/system is going to really deteriorate then you have to trade it for yourself. Now if it deteriorates then at least you could've made a lot of pips or you could've been profitable for some time then find another trading system/strategy again to trade.

I know a lot of good technical analyst who can't make a dime trading. A lot of the tools advertise on the net work, but what you need to trade them is TRADING SKILLS. They are not signals, amateurs take them as signals. No wonder the frustration. You need to learn how to trade, I believe your technical analysis might not be that bad.

Trading is not just about analysis either technical, fundamental, supply and demand etc., It's also about execution. That is putting on the trade. Yeah, one be a good analyst but the question is can you put on a trade based on your analysis? Analysis paralysis anyone? The problem is others tend to over complicate their analysis to the point that they become scared of putting on the trade or getting confused of what they need to do because of too much information that also tends to contradict other information from another analysis. This is one of the most important thing I've learned and this has really helped me a lot in my trading. Just keep it simple but not too simple.

If the edge is related to some decision to buy or sell based on some market condition, then certainly that will not work.

Yes Gambling is about luck. Most traders fail because they gamble on a system, a candlestick, SR, Fib, Gann, trend lines etc that do not work in the long run. If the method has been around for years it no longer works. If thousands of traders use the same candlestick, same Gann, same SR, same trendline, same everything then it ultimately fails.

If you are a failed trader then teach trading for a living rather than trade for a living.

5 years is that all, took me 10 to find a strategy !

I don't mean to be rude but is your knowledge of Price Action just the basics of what you see on the net? I mean is your knowledge to the level of definitively knowing why a breakout fails or succeeds ? Or do you have an understanding or the reasoning behind momentum ?

i think another problem here is the term "A system"

I trade most of the time automated (~70%) - but when i see a setup i just enter, i donīt have a so called "strict system" myself i have a bunch of different options just call it "loose systems" i donīt force the market to fit into "my system", i just adapt "my system" to the actual market condition by trading style, stops, estimated duration, fundamental events, other open orders on my accounts which might be effected due to higher exposure in terms of equity.

Iīm profitable in both manual and automated. Because this is another bullshit, just because someone uses experts it does not necessary means he cannot trade manual.
Most traders are searching for THE ONE SYSTEM which fits into all different market conditions and this is where your trouble begins.
