Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told Congress on Wednesday that a weak job market and low inflation would likely allow the central bank to keep interest rates at very low levels for "an extended period."

Translating: hikes starting shortly.

Nope I don't get it either. I just trade it. If those figures do mean anything and the dollar strengthens god help us in the UK.

well, i heard you guys are going to have a double dip recession, and the pound has been falling for the last month. i think the euro is going to tank as well, thos countires that are having issues are going to drag it down. if this health care bill dies like it is supposed to, that will help the dollar.

Went short EU during the London fix, pound was right around it's ATR for the day and didn't want to mess with her.

Quota for the week and month has been achieved.

My trading has been going well lately. I am finally managing to set longer term positions. Congratulations on reaching your quotas. Everybody's happy

long story short... if things go bad for us economy, investors are liquidating stocks... selling oil... etc. and when you sell these, you ask for dollars... the more you sell, the more you ask for dollars... so usd goes up.

also, let's not forget that when every other currency has problems, usd is a safe heaven.

That's something we have to think about. News are crap. a "green" number can rocket or sink a pair, depending always of the overall sentiment (long therm "health")....

AUD for instance... is showing the best numbers out there, and AUD/USD is going down... OK, gold is going down as the commodities are sold when US is not recovering sooooo much, so USD is "wanted", but IMO we need to read between the lines... yes, Aussie (and Brazil) have been peforming well lately.... but, they (we, I'm brazilian) rely on exporting commodities.... Vale do Rio Doce can't live without the China buyers... and with EC and US and China and Japan slowing down, who the hell is going to buy our iron/soy/gold/cotton/oil/steel/chicken.....???? Will we (Australia, Brazil) see a late wave of slowing down???

Busy day out. Nailed 2 new whales (like Bemac said, I'm gonna need'em LOL).

Dow managed to emerge from hell in the intraday. Last time I checked, it was under -160 points, to close around -50...

Still needing some kickass good news, ya know? Otherwise it will go on up and down BS like these days...
