hello everyone and thanks Xaron and Abowaik for your support i agree too that small candles could sometimes trigger ''random'' trades but i think that a possible solution to this problem could be to use the double or triple of the ATR applyed to the close of the signal candle i also noticed that the ''recovery'' trade on those candle activate too quickly cause it is too close to first trade and that could be another source of overexposure that could be limited by activating ''recovery'' trades only when the price has gone further our way ( could...

Very valid points Kunay. I totally agree

Now look at that beautiful EUR/USD short. We still would be in that trade, trailing it... A pity!

Right. I believe we should incorporate a min/max stop loss relative to each pair using ATR as Kunay suggested. And since lot size is variable and calculated based on fixed risk, I think it will give better results.

How do you want to use the ATR when the opposite order is that close?

Suppose the trigger candle range is 10 pips, and our selected ATR is 20 pips, so we have a shortage of 10 pips, we split into 2 parts, 5 added to the candle high, and 5 pips subtracted from candle low, creating a phantom candle. see chart (red rectangle is the phantom candle replacing the actual trigger candle).

Just an opinion.

i backtested the whole february with e/u, i set orders 4 pips away from the high and low of the candle and the results are stunning, it's 15 winners and 3 losers, if you would risk 5% per trade, that should be 60% gain of your investment and the month isn't over yet.

Good catch Xaron. abokwaik & Kanay9, I think you may be onto something. Usually false BO's are minimal pips. I'll be on the testing circuit myself.
Thanks,
Darryl

{quote} The first EA version posted was actually trailing by last candle. This one trails by last 2 candles as per Xaron rules. {file} The EA can run on any time frame, just make sure you set the start time correctly. All trades/pending orders will get closed at the close hour/minute

Interesting and thanks for the results, abokwaik.

Just some questions:
Min Candle Size 300 means that the minimum distance between low and high will be 30 pips, right?
What does min_trailing_pips mean and that step size? How do you trail the stop?

Yes.

1. The EA will check the size of the Trigger Candle, is its size (high-low) is greater than "Min Candle Size" it will use the Actual Trigger Candle.
2. If the Trigger Candle Size is less than "Min Candle Size", it will use a Phantom Candle of size equal to "Min Candle Size" around the actual trigger candle, and all trading will be based on the Phantom Candle.

For 4-digit brokers 30 means 30 pips.
For 5-digit brokers 300 means 30 pips.

The EA will by default tail by the high/low of the last 2 candles.
If the distance (trailing stop) is less than "Min Trailing Stop" it will use "Min Trailing Stop" instead.

Trailing Step is used to minimize order modification requests sent to the broker's server.
If you set it to 10 points (1 pip), it will send 1 order modify request when price moves 10 points in your favor.
If not set (set to 0), the EA will send 10 order modify requests.

Thanks, that min trailing stop makes much sense indeed! To avoid stopped out due to noise. Great!
