I used to trade in a similar way. It works until (for example) EUR and GBP break their correlation and head off in different directions - which will happen sooner or later. For this reason I like Mathtrader's idea of getting in and out of the market as quickly as possible and relying on the news for volatility, rather than taking longer term trades.

Hi skoda2008,
Can you explain me how do you select pair for buy and sell based or correlation. For example from the attached table of correlation of major pair can you identify which pairs should be selected for Buy and which pair for Sell.

I didn't use a table or calculations to know which pairs were correlated. Just what I guess you could call fundamentals. For example, AUD and NZD tend to follow each other due to close geographical proximity, very similar political/social climate etc. AUD and CAD being resource based currencies and both stable political environments, etc...

I then used percentage change from yesterday's close (NY Close) as the "difference factor". Buy the one that was underperforming, sell the one that was overperforming.

The first version of the indicator which shows the relative price move between two symbols released. I updated Post 1.
I think we can use this indicator to trade two correlated symbols

I would think the momentum indy that you created would be a good addition. Was it called need for speed or something like?

You are looking to benefit from a quick imbalance in the correlation right?

Need for speed? Mmmm.... I remember a good work by Abokwaik named Need4Speed Scalping, but it has nothing to do with the strategy we trade in this thread

Abokwaik Need4Speed Scalping

that's it. Sorry for the mixup.

If that idea could see the imbalance by a momentum burst on one vs the other and trigger the hedge...

It says it doesn't have enough money. But its not true. My account is 5k... and the order should be sized at 0.5 lot...
I can pretty much open it manually.
When clicking on the EA buttons. it opens and closes the positions in terms of seconds.

I just found out what the problem was.
I needed to let charts of all hedge pairs opened. No matter if they were enabled in the market watch window already...
I have done some three losses today during news. But it is working.

I wasn't asked but would like 2 shares my 2 cents. Let's start with the meaning of correlation

1.) 1 = positive correlation; EURUSD GO UP / XXX GO UP ; EURUSD GO DOWN / XXX GO DOWN
2.) -1 = negative correlation; EURUSD GO UP / XXX GO DOWN; EURUSD GO DOWN / XXX GO UP

The closer to 1 or -1, the higher the chance of 1.) and 2.)

You would want to look for some pair with correlation either close to 1 or -1.

EURUSD/EURGBP = 0.98 (positive)

It means when EU goes up, the chance is EG will go down and vice versa.

So, the hedge then will be "BUY and SELL" or "SELL and BUY"

But if the correlation is negative then it will be

"BUY and BUY" or "SELL and SELL"
