I want to mention for a while this was the best, easiest trade system.
This 2 sentence is everywhere:
"follow you system, always"
"every system has his weakness"

This system is for ranging market. There is nearly perfect.

After the ranging market it will be a trending market, sooner or later. There you will loose even more what you made at ranging, f you follow blindly the rules.
If you don't follow the system.. than have you a system?

Every sharp turn to strong trending will almost instantly decimate your account. Just check the back testing and the EA.
At higher TF less sharp turn but there are present also + need a lot more money + lot less leverage. I think in my last high Frame tests I have used negative leverage. It is still a trading... for some positions to be closed needed to wait months. Until that you just see "add more to losing position because is a new HH or LL in the system".

The CHF account was a black swan event, this is true.

As far as the spike goes. That is why one should trade within the specified parameters. That said, the OP of the thread has a solid idea of trading only the extremes. The Murrey Grid needs to be a certain size based the ATR of the instrument you are trading. If you do it right, you can withstand any kind of drawdown on an 80 level Progression. Are there easier ways to make money? You bet.

I think this system is good enough to use. What we can do is use money management or a trend system to complete the weakness of this system. There is no perfect EA.

The CHF spike in Jan 2015 was a rare event, however, the risk of a significant event and major loss does exist
at all times and with all types of trading.

As I said before - busy with other things, so there is no time for lengthy explanations.
I just took a conservative set for USDCAD and ran a test on USDCHF from December 2014 to last Friday.
Without optimization, stupidly picked up a set for another currency and used it for trading on usdchf.

In the evening I still found a couple of minutes: I performed the test with the same set for 10 years from 01 jan 2007.

I would say profit factor around 1.2-1.7 should be. At 6 is a joke.
Trading, anything less than 1000 trades is just to few.
Curve: if is to smooth, then you filtered out the ideal and worse cases ( by knowing the existing data)

Overall not bad.


5m data of 10 years I think I couldn't download or I had some issue.

Monthly average 12.2 trade. I think this is very close to what I aim, but not with basking.
It seems only 1 full basket / month, it is ok, but I think is to few opportunity. Maybe it isn't more, maybe are filtered out, maybe you could find in 1M , but no data available.

In 10 years you made +198,2%, and had 50% DD, well...
If the gain is acceptable, because we are talking about millions, then the DD is not acceptable - at least for me.

These conclusions need to be clarified: How did I filter the data?
The graph of the correlation of currencies for 1 year is shown in the screenshot.
If you take the USDCAD currency, conduct optimization for 9 months of 2016, and then use these settings for the 10-year interval of USDCHF,
then it's a bit strange to talk about filtering. "... by knowing the existing data..." - I did not know the existing data, because I used quotes of another
currency when optimizing.
The source code of the program is present on the forum and you can always be sure that there is no algorithm fit for the story.

If there is a desire to normalize the DD, you can always specify the required criteria to optimize for the target currency.
Use parameter settings: extern double AccFreeMargin = 0.0; // Test: a new grid with a fixed margin
When optimizing, set the maximum DD in the currency from your deposit.
EA will monitor the excess of this value regardless of the growth of the balance.

Increasing the leverage will increase the max DD too.

In this example what I gave if you use 100% you will loose the account on the first loss and almost double at the first win.

Now lets have another System, which maybe is profitable:

Lets to the +/100 pip with 1% risk ( using 1:1 leverage) at 0:00 and the direction be the closed candle direction. - a kind of trend follower system.
In this system lets say we got a series of candles ant a pair where we have in this system a 70% win and 30% loss ratio.
Now back to out MM system:
- if you do the math and optimize it, you will see the risk / trade should be incredible high. ( 30% / each trade) MATHEMATICALLY!!! - how will you and your creditors will resist mentally after raiding an 1k account to 100 million and have a 99% draw down that is completely other question.

My question is:
- what you do when your max DD is reached? - you will not eat at a restaurant and save 100$ hence fill up the account and cover the 20% costs if the capital was 500 usd. What if you took a load of 1 million with all your real estate warranty and have to cover 200k? Stop trading and go back to work until rest of the life?
What if is 50% allowed, hence need to cover 500k usd now?

The 2 enemies of the trader is the: greediness and the fear. That must be controlled.

This is a ranging system, which ads to losing position even leveraged.
Control the greediness, because later you pay with your bigger part of your account.
Only for short term you can get nice curves of equity to foul your naive investors. The big DD will come sooner or later.

My aim is to have a total size of trades of 1 lot per $5000 in the account
So I can allow the EA to open as many trades as it wants but all the trades will have to add up to 1 lot when the account equity is $5K. This means that if we do tests and at any time the EA opens trades which equal to 2 lots I will need to have a $10000 account. This is my rule for my accounts and for my currency pair.

Over the years I have broken this rule a few times while experimenting live with this strategy ( using a different EA) and I got in trouble twice. Therefore in order to make money and to stay safe using this strategy we need to keep our lot size small
or to have a BIGGER account size.

I would NEVER NEVER take a loan to trade forex. I'd rather lose my right arm than to put my house at risk.

This is what I've been saying all along here because I can see what will happen
Newbie traders will read a few pages, will get excited by the nice curves and will put all their savings at risk and lose everything they have and more. Trading is like gambling, and people need to be VERY careful because they can easily ruin their lives... People should only be trading with money they would not care if they lose it.

Hi Genry, Thanks for your time and effort on this, this is a great and big potential system. I downloaded it but don't know how to test in optimization way. I think many people who downloaded maybe same as me - newbie to this kind of Auto trading system. Auto trading system are really attractive but it is really hard to figure out what exactly do we have to do especially for me like know nothing about coding. It might be good to open a new thread with the tutorial how to use this EA and how and what you expect people to do with it(like the optimization result you would like others to test and share) I will definitely do it and I can try to put this system in a small real account right now. Will require me to spend a lot of time. I assume that before trading begins, the trader pays attention to the study of the trade program - MT4.

Under point 2. When I load the settings from my tester here, I leave all the ranges. If you upload this file to the Expert Advisor, then you will have to press the Start button and the optimization will begin.
I regularly write small technical notes on the parameters of the adviser.
Spread, deposit size, optimization interval and test interval I provide along with the configuration file.

Yes, $ 5000 deposit was enough to pass the interval of 12 years from 2005 on a couple of NzdUsd, m5.
After 2009, the need for a deposit fell to $ 700-1000 per lot 0.02.
Optimization was conducted with lot 0.04, depot 650, threshold DD 550 on the interval from 13Dec15 to 20 Nov16 (nzdusd_m5).

Yes $5000 and even lower equity will work on this pair but it will depend on the EA settings and the leverage of our account.

The problem is, if we trade small size we will have small gains and if we pick safer settings, the EA will not take many trades so our gains will be even smaller. You can see this limitation in your back tests.

My preference is to let the EA take more trades and this is what I do with my own EA.
It trades often and it trades in both directions simultaneously so sometimes we will have both short and long trades open and our risk of a margin call is reduced because some of the trades (longs+ shorts) will be cancelling each other out.

I achieve this by using 2 EA's,
1 EA trading long and 1 EA trading short ( using 2 different charts)

Yes, our development is also slowly moving in this direction. Unfortunately, the original EA architecture from this branch was designed for one-way trade.

As you know I have modified the Staxis EA to only trade in 1 direction so that I can have 1 EA take long trades and 1 EA take short trades but I'm not convinced that this technique works properly with the current Staxis EA and I can't back test it.

Does then the EA reset and start to look for the next opportunity or does it think that we are still in a short trade and not looking for long trade opportunities?

I have done back tests and I can see that the $ gain of the 2 Staxis EAs trading in opposite directions when added together, is greater than if we used 1 EA trade both directions but the difference is not very big. I would have expected a bigger difference so I'm suspecting that something is stopping the EA from taking trades in the opposite direction (when trades are open).

Yes I know but the function I'm talking about is a little different.
It has been a few years since I decided to go with this method but I think in your case the EA will issue the SELL instruction but metatrader will ignore it resulting in repeated attempts by the EA to open the order and in unwanted EA activity.
This could become an issue when we have many charts open and many EA's running.
The other thing is, how would you know which chart is doing the buying and which one is doing the selling?
I also needed to have a visual indication on the chart and a way to stop each BUY or SELL EA from running without stopping all EA's.
