Hi, this poll it's for all those who use Forex, CFD, Futures, etc ...
It would be even more interesting to know how much leverage/margin you have opened your real account and how much you actually used.
This beacuse here are people who have opened accounts with 1: 1000 leverage, while others with lower leverage such as 1:10.

So the question is: which leverage/margin did you choose in your real account?
And why?

Thanks

The risk of a trading position can be well controlled by lot size but I also prefer to work with moderate leverage to avoid being thrown out of the boat with a sudden spike (especially for me as for a dedicated news trader). I don't use more than 1:100 leverage size for my Hotforex trading accounts and tend to work further on lowering them (probably to 1:50 or even 1:10).

It's also said that risk assessment setup of many brokers doesn't allow to play bucketshop games with new traders who chose low leverage&decent deposit as it's fraught with losses for a company. I believe it's not a myth but well-grounded observation.

If I'm risking up to 5% per trade, my leverage is around 1:75 or 1:100 max..

If I am risking 1% per trade, 1:20 is enough.

I trade intraday.

If you're a swing trader, probably 1:5 or 1:10 max is enough if your capital is large and risking <1% per trade.

But ultimately, leverage depends on strategy... Still, you've to acknowledge that the higher leverage you use, the more at risk you are. Doens't matter if you use stops because stops can be disrespected in bad market conditions. True ECN conditions mean that slippage can go up to any amount of pips.

But when open an account and choose leverage, you consider the margin or not?

For example did you consider the difference between open an account with high leverage with small margin or with low leverage and high margin?
