The problem is in your trading EA code. Version 1.69 has solved the time label of the Renko bars. You can take a look at the modified code of a trading EA in Post 799.

{quote} Your EA's algorithm to detect opening of a new Renko brick is faulty. There is no essential difference between v1.53 and v1.67 that may cause that problem. But if your EA works fine with v1.53, then why you want to use v1.67?

ım talking with my EA developer guy.He says>> In order for us to open 1 trade on each candle, we need to see that the candle is the new candle. We do this in two ways. 1.) We say, just enter the trade as soon as the new candle starts. 2.) open only 1 trade during each candle. There are both of these controls. But, in order to do that, we need to understand that the candle is the new candle. This is understood by the start time of the candle. Normally there is a separate start time for each candle and this time is fixed. If the time changes as the candle moved, that is, if the candle does not have a fixed start time, we cannot understand it. My EA's algorithm to detect opening of a new Renko brick is not faulty. Can you optimize latest version for this ?

Version 1.70 released (I updated Post 1 where you can download it). In this version I fixed the bug that caused the time label of a Renko bar change twice.

Hello MathTrader, Thank you for sharing your work.
If I may ask, is it possible for you to add something similar to what this MTF candle indicator does to your expert advisor? let's say I want my main brick size to be 10 pips but have 20 pips Renko candles highlighted on top of the 10 pips candles as well, similar to this picture.

Hi,

I have tested renko in the past but now I've spent a whole day trying to run tests and made zero progress. I don't know what I am missing.

Could someone share the one totally correct way to go about this in MT4 that works with the latest builds.

I'm not sure if various builds of MT4 have outdated some of the info or I am making silly mistakes but the various YouTube videos and some of the OVO stuff is outdated now.

thank you !

Some old methods of backtesting Renko EAs might not work in the latest build of MT4.

Why non-gap Renko charts? In standard Renko charts there is a gap of brick size between open of the reverse brick and the close of the previous brick. The Renko creator EA presented here creates a non-gap version of Renko charts. The non-gap version reconstructs the history more accurately than standard Renko charts, where it is of great importance for backtesting the EAs. For this reason, I personally prefer this type of building Renko charts, and here I share my Renko creator EA with the community. {image} >>Thread Rules: 1. In this thread we...

Is the real ticks script for making a CSV or HST file form a current renko chart so that you can import it into metatrader for testing?

{quote} Hi Monk, For rough testing, I create a Renko M1 HST file which suffices for having an idea how the EA/Strategy/Trading idea would work. But for more accurate test, I use real ticks downloaded from Dukascopy, convert them to M1, and I use a Renko builder function (that I integrate it into the target EA) to build Renko bricks into the memory. I then apply the trading strategy to the Renko bricks saved in the memory while I can benefit from real ticks behavior (such as big jumps due to high impact news, etc.) to test more accurately a strategy....

I know his is old, but if you are still around, can you go into your EA/scripts and how you backtest? A step by step would be really helpful. I recently created an EA using Renko and then realized it acted totally different on live chart mostly due to the bar gaps. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

In Post 1, you can find some info about backtesting Renko EAs. For example, see this thread

Hi Mathtrader7, Hi all,

I recently develop a renko EA on MT4 and read carefully the differents post for backtesting my EA in Tick by Tick mode :
https://www.forexfactory.com/thread/...-renkotocsvmq4
https://www.forexfactory.com/thread/...art-creator-ea

It's not easy to understand how to do exactly. I tried different post/solutions without any success.

Firstly, to better understand MT4 engine working system, I have these questions :

1) What exactly are HST files ? are they containing tick by tick datas from date A to date B ? or just OHLC value for a specific timeframe ? How these files are used in the MT4 engine ?

2) Same question for FXT file. I know these files are used for strategy tester but : who shall construct these files ? How these files are used by MT4 ? is it only for backtesting in visual ? Shall have to pay a particular attention for these files ? If I have the good HST file and the good settings on strategy tester --> the FXT file will be correctly generated by MT4 ?

I suppose the idea of backtesting EA on renko is in "bypassing" the system and make it believe the renkos bricks are fitted in M1 timeframe ? Am I right ? And so the job consists in making a new specific HST file with this structure ? let me know if I'm wrong and in that case please explain me what is the idea behind the renko on MT4.

Finally, my goal is to backtest my EA on NSQ100 for the year 2021 (for exemple) in tick by tick.

Here are the things I have done :
- download a tick data file in "CSV2FXT Birt" format from Tickstory Lite (is it the good format finally ?) and that makes a 6.5Go file size...
Attached Image

- I put this file in MQ4/File folder
- Get EA MathTrader7_RenkoChartCreatorEA.ex4
- Get script MT7_CSV2RenkoHST_SC.ex4
- I have an other version of MT4 with an other broker (for what is it necessary ?) because HST file on M1 timeframe of my tested symbol will be changed ?
- I use the MathTrader7_RenkoChartCreatorEA.ex4 EA on a chart and that create a new offline chart with renkos... okay... but is it useful for backtesting only ?
- I use the MT7_CSV2RenkoHST_SC.ex4 on the 6.5Go CSV file and that make a little HST file of 6.3Mo... so I think tick-datas informations are lost no ?
Attachment 4138649
Attached Image
- I delete all the history datas of the symbol I want to backtest (all is clear)
Attached Image (click to enlarge)

- I import the HST file in my symbol --> I have 146549 bars but all theses bars are at the date of today... ?

Size: 57 KB

- I start the strategy tester like that :

Size: 18 KB
- And when I press start the visual mode stay like that :

If you can help me this will be great... and if you can explain more about MT4 working system with the hst and fxt files this will be great too.
A complete video will be much more great...

I hope someone could get some times to help me.

Bests regards all !
Ghen.

{quote} Here's a question for ya, Math...and would seemingly make a lot more sense in working with renko and especially by visual representation with your Non-Gap charts... Is it possible to make the starting points more dynamic? In the chart below, I am using the example you had in post 1, very top left corner where I have 2 places market. 1. Zero Line 2. Dynamic Starting Point. When we are looking at the Renko Charts, we are trying to determine how to make our entries more fluid and in doing so, by having a generic start placement, and of course...

@MathTrader7
Can you tell me your thoughts on this idea:

One of the main issues with renko is that the starting price always changes and if you have 2 terminals same chart it can/will look different because different data can be loaded on the chart.

The fix for this can be having a renko chart generator with a variable input to choose start date/price so if two people have same settings it will be consistent.

The option could be a selection of the hourly close to start generating the renko chart. so if i chose the hour 15, when hour 15:00 candle closes, it takes that close price and starts building renko bars from that price, and hourly close prices are pretty consistent across brokers, therefore each time that candle closes it starts drawing from there, backtesting would be more accurate as well since it resets the renko chart daily.

{quote} Hi Magix! I see your point, and I would say that it is possible but it will make a repainting Renko builder, which I tried to avoid by introducing my non-gap version. I think you can easily see and accept that if we want to change the open of a bearish candle, as in your example, to the high value of the candle, we have to wait for the candle to close, then repaint it such that it starts (i.e., its open price) from the high price. Nonetheless, I am also thinking about a dynamic version of a Renko builder in which each candle size is identified...
