Did anyone here lose their whole account or the majority of it during the CHF explosion? There's a lot of chat about people losing everything and more, but I haven't heard from anyone who actually did.

Nope. I lost about 9 bucks on my USD/CAD trade though. I had a setup to go long but it blasted down through my entry and stop before rallying back up. I think 9 bucks is an acceptable loss though, all things considered.

Very acceptable indeed. I wasn't trading, luckily, or it may have been quite disastrous for me.

Well considering that it bankrupted four brokers and almost put one, the largest in retail fx trading out of business I would say a LOT of people lost a LOT of money.

gold spreads whacked, lost $3-400 on trades that were near expiry & in good profit, made me sad

I believe there was a thread made here on that day of the peg removal. You would see comments of traders who ended with negative balance accounts.

Well I wasn't trading but since I was with alpari I've lost all the trades I could have done with my money in my account with them until the Administrators get their act together, and that of course could be significant one way or the other. Anyway new broker now, much smaller pot but I'm starting to make headway.

This is nothing new.

Same thing happened to the former well known Pit Trader Jeffrey Ansani, back in 1994.

And yet very few of them are here to tell their story. Funny how everyone brags about how well they are doing (usually lies) but go totally silent when they are losing.

so if you had a SL in place you lose what was acceptable to you I know it sounds like a dumb question I just can't understand how people lost a whole account on one deal and some get into debt.

That is because they were overleveraged. All we always hear about leverage is how great it is, but never the dangers of it. I guess many people placed positions way too big for their account sizes, being confident that 1.20 will hold forever....

Which broker you used?? I noticed only 1 broker made money during this swiss black swan day and don't know how good they are but just talked to support. How do you see this broker?
