all i can say about corona: germany has the best system to resist that crisis. huge cash reserves, lending is possible at -0,75% for ten years, relatively low indebtness, strong and fast fiscal policy answer, liquidity aid to SME, not only for the big corporations. short term allowance for all if needed. even a jobless has a health insurance and will be payed for 12-24 months at 80% of last salary if i´m not wrong. after this period, still flat and living costs will be payed by the social welfare state. this is what keynes called automatic stabilizers. no need to go to work with symptoms, no fear of falling into nothingness.

everyone has a health insurance, ten thousands of testing-labs, everyone can be tested. mortality is very low, hospitals have enough space and devices for those who get harmed hard. maybe the serum will be invented here.

vast majority here is not panicking but staying calm - such is me. no hoarding, that´s anti-social. germany is a self-supporter for nearly all aliments. health-system is available for all and at high end.

i am not scared, i´m at good health and not part of the risk group. gonna do blood donation these days. germany will get out of this crisis stronger than before.

Thinking in similar terms, but the herd is in panic. Generally we do have a retreat from critical thinking (well, thinking in overall) in societies (anti vaccine movements are perfect example). So until some breakthrough step with the corona fight will be made, ppl will be in general shock.
And they shouldn't be. If we look at reeealy serious outbreaks (cholera, spanish flu), this one is a cinch.

To be honest, I wouldn't be too complacent especially with the elderly and hospitalisation rates. Many people people can be asymptomatic for up to 27 days, and infect elderly if they are not careful. I agree nearly every country will get out of this in the next 12-18 months, but partial lock-downs are probably a good starting point imho. You're lucky that Germany is entering Summer period. In Australia as we are going into winter when people stay indoors and virus activity starts to increase. They will need to flatten the exposure curve, personally I don't think many nations have the hospital capacity for pandemic situations. Local news in Oz has suggested that they expect the infection rate to soar to 1m people in Australia by end of April if there is zero lock down or precautionary measures taken. Even if 5-10% of those require hospitalisation, I doubt we would have the facilities. With partial lockdown they are expecting perhaps 120,000 infections in Australia by end of April. Hospitals could cope with a certain % of that latter figure. We only have one Mask Manufacturing Factory here in Australia, and the Army has now guarding it.

I think one fall out from this, is Governments will start to assess their import dependencies, and try to develop in-house where there are obvious gaps. You know when borders close, and shortages occur even temporarily, it might create industry locally with incentives.
