Protecting Your Intellectual Copyright - Advice Required

I've written an indicator that I would like to try and sell.

But how do you stop (or at least reduce) people from buying it and then giving it away or posting it on a forum?

One method would be
1. Every download of the indicator would have a unique hash
2. As part of the installation process the MAC address (or another value to identify the computer) is stored on my server against the unique key
3. Every time the indicator runs it would check on my server to make sure the MAC address matches the hash

But I'm not sure of the practicalities of doing HTTP requests in MQL.

You can protect it using mql4 protector, and if you still feel it will be abused you can use it as signal provider i.e providing signal to mt4.

Thanks, I'll look into this. Sounds a lot more straight forward than hash keys and MAC addresses.

I *think* it would have to run client side. The problem would be different brokers use different times for their open/close so it would be difficult to manage that server side.

The MQLLock looks favorite at the moment. No initial outlay and $25 per month rather than MQLPatriot being $499 (lifetime fee) and MQL4 Protect being $299 (intial purchase) + $6 per download.

I only want to charge $10-$15 per download and having to pay $6 per download would be too big a chunk.
