Role of Market Information in Trading

I'd be interested to learn what role news & info services play in the trading of other retail traders, so here are some questions...

1. Does following the news and/or market commentary services plays an important role in your daily trading?

2. Do you follow one or more news feed(s) and what kind of information are you looking for mainly?

3. Do you prefer a news feed in text format or an audio feed where information is broadcasted in real-time?

4. Do you think all the information you need is available for free or are there some kind of info it would worth paying for (news, order info, market analysis)?
1. Yes, it is the most important part of my trading. I use almost no technical analysis.

2. I follow several news feeds and analysis/opinion blogs. I am looking specifically for situations where a news release has the potential to move price significantly in one direction but not necessarily in the other direction. An example of this would be inflation data hitting a currency which is already trending in line with previously released employment data. I also follow events which can cause medium/long term trend shifts such as monetary policy statements.

3. Text, I don't use any audio feeds. I like to take my time dissecting a report and update my journal as I read it.

4. Freely available information is all I need. I don't see how paid services could improve the way I trade.

1. No, as I think that the big sharks have the info and the tools to play it rapidly well before us, so I prefer to follow the trend using technical analysis.

2. 3. and 4 are irrelevant as I don't play news.

News plays no part in my trading.
I should have mentioned perhaps that market commentary feeds are included as well. So feeds with order info, some technicals etc.

I was focused on periodic economic news releases like employment, PPI, NFP, etc Maybe that the Shinzo thing generated some kind of ripple at the minute of the announcement which we can consider as a NEWS. Then, it becomes a fundamental data.

Reuters and Bloomberg news terminals are usually 2 minutes ahead of conventional news sites like FF.Trading floor/hedge funds squak box usually get the news as much as 30 minutes ahead.

Ok, I'm familiar with the Reuters/Bloomberg service, but what trading floor/hedge fund squawk box services do you mean specifically?

I think this is B.S., it's a persistent and pervasive myth around here that this is how the "big boys" enter the market. I know there are traders who do this, but they aren't the ones playing with the really big bucks.

Tell me, if the "big boys" throw their weight into the market during minute-by-minute news releases and move price by a few pips, who causes price to move a thousand pips or more during major trends? Are these not the genuine "big boy" investors we should be focusing on?

2,3. news feed no use for me.

4. From what I know, have everything I need for free. However, can you provide example of news you think one would be paying for? trouble with this is that big boys pay big money for some news. Small fry cannot afford these. And you cant say - because you small you will get same news for 1/100 of a price at the same time
