I want to know is there anybody here succesfully trading news be it by straddling or trading the spike back ?

I would never trade the spike back but when I trade the news, which is rarely, I am usually successful. What would you like to know?

I always use the news in my trading. Especially because I trade major pairs, so economic news can influence my profit very much...

how have you been finding it and could you tell me why you rarely trade news and the broker which u use to trade it if you could disclose please?
there is an edge fading news spikes...I use bollinger band with 3 stdev and price levels... though occasionally you'll have ur ass handed over to you.This is the time brokers are most malevolent and will try all tricks in the books to skin you.

All the usual reasons, you know, slippage, requotes, spread and so on have reduced the chances of effective automatic news trading but I do study past news releases and the longer term effect of them. The resources to do that are right here on Forex Factory. Obviously, if a news release is anticipated, then the price tends to stall an hor or two before the release. A perfect example of this is Gbp/Usd and the various 9:30am (UK time) releases. It will pay you to study the history of these and if the news is poor, and the pair is stalling in a down trend (I mean a daily down trend) then place a pending order as close as you can to the price after the news release. You will effectively have a minute or two to do this. This will usually get a fill as the price goes past. Just what you want to join the trend. Any reputable broker will do, as far as I know.

This post smells very strongly of bullshit. If it isn't then you are advocating a very dangerous scalping strategy. Do you mean if the news is contrary to the daily trend? Still a very unmanageable strategy even with a bunch of futile indicators with standardly devious names.

News trading is the most profitable strategy which helps you to grab some best amount of pips but usually brokers know this better than us and tricks us into getting trapped !!!

well if you use a NDD/STP broker then slippage, widening spreads and requptes are minimual and i use a EA which has a maxslippage setting so if my price is slipped the ea will cancel my order before im triggered. Also every stratergy has it downfalls. This strategy i use is defiantely profitable as i achieved 25% per month since january and ive seen videos of the strategy being in use since 2007.

im not sure sounds abit dangerous but if its profitable thats fine , what is the risk to reward of that strategy?

Yes pemully thanks for the vouch taunts. (Sarcasm) They weigh heavily. You get them for knowing what you are talking about.

So what does the chart say, then. Am I missing something? Perhaps someone other than pemully might be able to explain it to me? I must be stupid.

have I called you stupid?

according to my analysis the large (news induced) bar closed outside the bollinger band...price bounced a lot around 1.2980 which according to me is a support level where I buy.

as you can see its largely discretionary ...I don't attempt to trade immediately after news coz I have no execution edge then .....I wait until the fracas is over and usually fade the move.

Thank you for the explanation. I understand what you are doing now. You did not call me stupid but I frequently am. I'm not conversant with Bollinger trading and that kind of strategy (retracement) is something I avoid unless it is to join an established daily trend.

hey !! I also love it when the market moves 70-90 pips within 5-10 minutes . I will tell you my story (plz don't get bored ) before 4 months when i started trading i thought that is should trade the news so , i kept gazing at the FF and refreshing it many times just before the news release but when i come back to place my trade after looking at the data whether it is positive or negative by that time the market would have already moved around 50 points so i thought of a layman strategy to capture the big moves on news release now pay attention to what i say
" I place both buy and sell pending trades just before 30 seconds before news release keeping 10-12 pips gap according to current market price after 35 seconds i see my 1 deal loaded to whichever side the market moves and i delete the other pending deal to avoid the condition when the market shows both side movements (it shows both side movement only when there are 2-3 news release at one time plz try and avoid trading into the condition where there are multiple news release at the same time ) i also keep a SL of 3 pips
there are specific news release which make big moves in the market like GDP for UK can make a huge move this Thursday if there is any significant change in numbers .
considering today's news release of EUR we'll know that germany is a bigger economic power in euro zone so the markets were waiting for news release of germany .....U'll also face situation when the market will not show any movement this is because it showed significant move earlier and is exhausted by its previous move (i.e there are no big bear/bulls left in the market )
I would advice you to observe the market just 10 sec before news release it shows early moves before data release and we see a big move in the direction it moved 10 sec before the news release .

I just doubled my account yesterday it was awesome ...i closed my deal only for 100 pips and scaled out my profit other wise my account would have just been three times within 30 mins .....today i am looking forward to US GDP but these days market doesn't show any big movements on US data release however I'll put a stop loss of 3 pips because yesterday on release of unemployment news i lost somewhat 10 pips although my lot size was smaller because i knew that market won't show big movement on US data release but the movement didn't even match my lowest expectations
The news is the driving force behind what instituations are trying to acheive on a bigger scale. You can use the news to gain entry and exit or continue your exsisting trade based on news.
Find your Favourite Pattern
Sometimes I trade the news but not like the normal way new starters do.

People usually make mistakes by put buying/selling stops before the news. That's not trading but gambling.
What I do is I wait for the spike happens, and enter on the pullback, i.e. after the news, not during the news.

So let say you're waiting for short entry. The news spikes the price up. That's pretty perfect & an opportunity to have better entry.
If you're waiting for short entry, the news spikes the price down. Don't do anything. (have a think about it in trader perspective)
back... and more dangerous.
