EUR/USD : Market Gap & Prediction

I was in a conversation with a friend who made his fortune in forex. According to him, forex attitude was never like this for the past 5 years he was trading. This year the forex market is rather volatile if compared to last year. Is this true? Now it seems that the market movement has a gap of at least 100+ almost twice a month.

Now my question is how can we predict the market movement? I noticed there's a quality of discussion here because people can predict the major movement in the market.

Im not an expert but i believe in such thing as cycles. More people are starting to see Forex as another avenue of income. Just like how futures used to be...when evryone found out that there are limitless oppurtunity, in future, you suddenly see the surge...OIL etc.

As it was once said, Forex is still very much in its infancy stage, traded only by banks and big boys by the yards, but with the inclusion of minor players, this volume created by small players might have a minor significance. Systems trading might also be a contributing factor for this surge.
