Some quick and by no means complete analysis. I entered quite late as it turns out. If I had entered at the signal there was at least 18 to 20 pips on offer
enough to get SL to BE. Also there was a hell of alot of previous support to the left which would have made it a lower probability trade anyway...previous support (orange line )

Also HTF arrow in opposite direction.

Happy for feedback

Cheers

SR,

There was a major news release of ECB forecasters and ECB monthly report, right at 9:00.

So the first move, was a pre-news fake out, against H1 stochs

now if I have 4-5 charts open it lags a lot, freezes for minutes.

I have 16 charts open and absolutely no lag at all.

Though I have heard some people have lagging issues, not sure whether it is people's computers or their broker.

You do get performance issues between different brokers ????????????????

Also depends whether you have a live or demo account.

Demo accounts are considerably slower.

I’ve been finding this week difficult to trade. So i thought i’d put this post up, it may or may not help anyone, this is more of a diary for myself that i will refer back on.
I have finished the week with a profit, but it hasn’t necessarily been from well placed trades. I should mention, i can only trade from Tokyo open until two hours after London open. This is because i live in New Zealand.

I have a specific set of rules for entering trades, this has evolved over time and basically it is: M5 Chart, M5 Matrix, M5, 15 stochs dropping or rising from OB/OS, H1 Stochs lining up, and i try to get the H4 on board as well. Exit when M5 Matrix discolours.

The above entry setup has not occurred very often this week, which left me second guessing my trading setup, and that perhaps i was doing something wrong.
Yesterday i added trend indicators, stoch tapes, etc etc.
Then i arrived at the conclusion, the market simply wasn’t offering the pips, there was absolutely nothing wrong with my original trading setup.
I have reverted back to my original setup, and did a IFR type scan over the weeks data, to the hours i trade. All i could find was 3 trades that match my entry requirements. I only trade GJ and EA.
I have attached the examples. 3 trades, (10, 40 & 45 pis over 5 days) This is 19 pips per day (and its a bad week in my book).
19 pips per day put into the spreadsheet is still a great deal of money by the end of the year.

The point of this post is more about phycology.
It doesn’t matter if a few days go by and there are no trades that suit your entry requirements. As RJ would say, patience is the holy grail in FX trading.
Making “knee jerk reactions” to fake-outs will only lead to an empty account.

Have a great weekend everyone

{quote} I have in the past. Main fix within MT4 is to go Tools -> Options -> Charts and decrease the Max bars in history and Max bars in chart. I have one setup with 10,000 and one with 20,000 - which is heaps less than the default setting and means you use a lot less memory and hence your computer handles it better. Other factors are obviously number of charts / indicators ... and also what else your computer may be doing. My experience anyway.

It has been a difficult week for those two pairs, especially for those of us who cannot see NY session, so you're not alone there. i guess that much of the major moves have happened due to USA news which is outside our time of trading, and/or EU news (like Draghi yappin), which has also been outside our trade times. Couple that with the situation of the GBP (check out a GU Daily chart) at multi year highs, EU being stubborn and staying high, and the Yen staying in various states of weakness.

From time to time, these things happen and it is a test for us. We sit and wait, and only take what the market/system is prepared to give us, and we are happy for this gift. If we try chasing the market, we will lose, and I am sure there has been plenty of losses going on, judging by what I see in other threads.

We each have our way of 'tweaking' the system, for some, IFR rules.....for others, they like to see the candles. I am in between the two. For me, I don't pay any mind to the H1 stoch and I see no need to, others swear by it. It's just a matter of finding what suits you best, but above all, patience is the key......and it always will be!

Sooner or later the GU is going to turn south, so is the EU pair.......the Yen?....well......this artificial weakness thanks to Abe's possibly silly actions will end too. The Kiwi's stubbornness to stay above 80 will also end...etc etc etc. All that will happen...for sure.....and if we have the patience to collect the 20' and 30's per day, and sometimes less and sometimes more, we will be ready to swoop when the trends change.....and change they will!!

Nice post, and a good reminder about the importance of patience and of sticking to your guns ... in a similar boat, I know what my ideal set up is, but on a slow night all too often it's a case of having to fight the urge to put on a trade just for the sake of putting on a trade.

And/or, deciding that because it's slow you'll watch another pair, then another pair, and before you know, you're back up to lots of pairs and can't keep track of anything.

Definitely things to keep under control.

Good post ExFx

Good set ups are easy to find, resisting half chances is another animal all together.

Some of my best sessions have involved taking no trades at all...................

That's right...although it can be boring to sit out a whole session, if you see no valid setup, then no valid set up exists!! For sure, if you enter where the set up isn't really correct, you will regret the entry shortly after taking it!!

I was talking to someone else on Friday about I trade I took...short on EA at 5223 (just after LO). No chart at present sorry, but that's not important. I was aiming at the BRN and the PA stalled just above it, so I took the exit at +17. Later the BRN git hit, then the DP below, and the drop continued. Had I stayed in the trade, instead of +17, I would have had around +60!! But, i already had twice my daily goal in my pocket, and EA has been very choppy of late, so i took the +17 as a 'bit of cream'....

Now.....I could have been pissed off when I saw the drop continue, but I wasn't. I was happy with the +17. I could have chosen to re-enter and catch some more pips, but I didn't.....because.....there was no re-entry signal and so I had no way of know whether the drop was ending as soon as I re-entered!!

So that was one that 'got away'.......too bad.....shit happens!!

Better to be 'out wishing in', than it is to be 'in wishing out'.....

Build 600+ indies + template

On Post #1 you will see the original zip file that contains the template and indicators for the Genesis system. Now, you will also find another zip file which replaces the 'build 600 indies' by Xaphod. Those indies, plus all other indies, plus the Build 600+ template can also be found on Post #1.

Below is a screenshot of what you will see. I have deleted all my indies and started from scratch, so I'm sure this template works...but yell out if you have any issues.

The subtle changes to the template are:

The template is set up for the standard M5 Genesis, as indeed the original template was.

The arrow (ASCTrend) appears on the chart.

The ASCTrend M5/M15 Matrix also appears on the chart

The standard M5 11,3,3 stoch is on the chart and ALSO is the #MTF M15 11,3,3 stoch

Everything else is the same as before...FXI Pivots etc etc

Have fun

Great feedback guys, These high probability trades will be my main focus from now on.
More so, resisting entries that are not 100% right.
It is all too easy to hit the trade button, and regret it immediately.

It would be funny to employ someone to do my trading,
give them specific rules, if they break these rules.... They're fired!

I'm keen for that!
Just closed GJ for 46 Pips, M5, 15, 30 + H4 Stochs agreed.
I traded against the H1 stoch and am considering deleting that indicator after RJs comments on Friday.
There are are few times i've see PA travel against it with some big moves.
