Hi everybody,

I wanted to know your opinion about "scalping". Even I dont see to many traders preferring that method, to me it works like a charm.

With my DEMO ACCOUNT in 8 days i made $5,880 just from scalping and with the help of "PARABOLIC SAR" and "Stochastics". The time-frames i used were 1-min up to 30-min...

I posted images below

In my opinion, scalping rarely works. I had it going well for me on demo for a while, but the moment i went live it stopped working...

Hi, when you say "it stopped working" you mean that in a live trading there were numerous price requotes and slippages or that your emotions interfered with your trading resulting an unsuccessful scalping-trading??

Pretty much. I'd like to say that my emotions didn't play that great a role, but it would be a lie However, I've not heard of many other cases where scalping has worked for people...

Can you tell us more of your strategy? especially the money mangement of it, did you use realistic RISK or just whack it with large position size during momentum moves?

What was your win / loss ratio? Win size to loss size?

Thanks, C.

Well granted that i have $50,000 in my DEMO. I use 1-3lots and always use the SRI, Parabolic SAR and Stochastics...

Its kinda hard to tell the ratio of win loss BUT i took a bunch of pictures of my DEMO account earning for this week...You can see the losses and win I had and the total amount I earned so far (10/25/2011, 1:34AM)

You can see from the images that I did had some overnight orders...but mostly it was from scalping

Why dont you try again with a realistic amount, unless you plan on dumping 50k into an acct.

Go live and I bet you will notice a difference too.

It is fine to scalp. A lot of people do it. But on live you have 2 different animals to fight.

1)No instant execution. Demo is a perfect world. You can enter now whenever you want at the price you want. Instant full execution. This doesn't happen on live. There is a delay of some sorts as you don't get filled instantly, and often not at the price you want.

2)You have to fight spread. On demo, because of instant execution, you have the benefit of taking profit every 3 or 4 pips form your entry, which is what you have been doing. On live, spreads tend to widen and you got to fight the spread.

These things happen as well when you are closing the trade. It happens once for opening and once for closing. So if you intend to scalp 2 pips, you better be sure that price can move at least 6-8 pips in your favour.

Then there is the real factor of psychology. I'd say go for it and experiment with a real account. You will see a huge difference. But definitely a good learning experience. Come back and ask questions again after you have done it on live.

Your demo account looks great!!! However, I think there is a different learning curve for a real account. Put a small amount in a real account and try to get the same or similar results. You may find that you need to tweak your trading style.

Scalping can be very rewarding .I must say that in my early days when I traded from mt4 providers I had many problems with hitting close to my ideal price and it proved difficult to trade with.
But when I switched to ig and my entries for the best part get filled instantly things became a lot better.so much so that the contracting spread could be used to my gain especially in tight ranges.
The thing to master is being decisive both on entry and dumping .over time I've found it more productive and positive to take less trades

I love scalping and it's the only type of trading I do these days. That said I just trade for fun these days. To me scalping feels like a game you see instant rewards from.

I do not suggest beginners to scalp, except 2-3 orders per day or swing trading.

In that case you should scalp on a demo account and have it automatically copied over to a live account

If scalping on the demo account works well then scalping on a live account will work well too

Here is a graph with real information. The first section shows price movement in 2011. The second is for January-August 2019. If you are not capable of seeing the difference, then you might want to consider staying at your J-O-B.

I agree scalping works for me too. I am able to make better profits through scalping than by any other trading style. It just requires a lot of time commitment ,in order to make the right move and generate profits. I have to sit hours in front of the forex markets to be able to fetch profits. But scalping is exciting for me, many others find it too risky.
