I bought this Bonsai on the weekend, I didn't intend to, I was simply giving my friend a lift to the plat nursery so she could buy some standard roses. I saw this Bonsai and I just had to buy it. Anyway I soon discovered that it was a "grafted" plant meaning it's not even a genuine Bonsai. Same way I just got a PM from someone asking me about Spudfyers MTF stochastic and asking me if they were the "holy grail" of Forex. I'm a baby in the Bonsai business but I bought this Bonsai at a time when Iv'e been trading for near on 9 years so the contrast is very symbolic in a contrasting way.

The thing I like most about Bonsai's is the energy that they display is the equivalent of a fully grown tree but condensed into a small bite sized visual. It's very cool, I'm hooked. So as one journey ends (my technical trading education), another begins (My new Bonsai hobby). Why am I telling you this? I don't know but as my Mentor was a Japanese actually, to be honest I think the greatest draw to these dwarfed trees for me is the symbolic representation of time and energy. It reminds me of my trading journey, which has really only just began.

I started out by looking at the way the market moves, like a Fibonacci sequence where a trend or momentum may develop, then a retracement occurs beyond the momentum line and a bigger trend may resume. E.g Up 2, down1, up 2, down 1, up 2, Down 4, up 4, down 2 , Up 4

Back before I tried my luck scalping and watching the market full time I did quite well off this basic structural pattern. I would look for FUEL (a very strong and obvious support or resistance level). One where even if going against the trend should provide some healthy bounce to at east give me something to work with. I would enter the first position with a wide stop and then after the bounce would bring my stop loss up to the bounce point and add more.

The next phase was the momentum reversal as I called it where the bounce would retrace in a weaker movement hence momentum reversal. Drawing a fib from the bounce point would wait for the fist pull back to the fib retracement zone and then add more at the 38. 2% level and bringing my stop loss up to outside the 61.9% level. Every time I added I would do a quick calculation to make sure my risk throughout the trade was always a constant. My risk in the trade was less than 1% and so if the trade failed I would always lose some capital but never enough to be concerned about.

I would then simply pyramid the trade drawing the fib at each new high and adding again every time the market retouched the 38.2% level after making new heights. The stop would always trail outside the 61.9% level and I would just ride the FUEL provided by the bounce point. In doing so I could build relatively big positions from very small risk. It is this structure I borrowed for my latest strategy.

I then looked for price agreement around Fibonacci levels and traded accordingly. I found this was a good guide but after a week felt it was too pattern based and so adapted the method to a simpler approach. So not being so rigid with Fibonacci levels
etc

What I found after a further week of trading is that the market movement outside of the momentum line is an important requirement and so therefore agreement levels will only be looked for after this requirement is met often. Coincidentally this will also coincide with fib levels but the Fibonacci is not the focus.

Second to this structural way of identifying entry areas and agreement levels I found added the basic theory of Richard Wycoffs Accumulation, Mark Up and Distribution, so the method focuses on looking for the Accumulation or distribution period coinciding with agreement. Whether be Pin, Hammer, etc, the important element is in the constriction of movement in time after a period of expansion.

So combining these two structural elements of the market I can make educated decisions regarding trades in a consistent yet non rigid manner, combining timeframes can become confusing at times yet also an important tool in confirming, timing and exiting trades. This is one area which needs more focus and improvement in the interests of simplification.

The 3rd and final element of the method is timing and confirming the entry. Using a smaller timeframe in order to see the current swings this involves simply waiting for the “tip” and often seen by a failed attempt to continue in the current direction result in in the first lower high (for short selling) or higher low (for long entries). Late traders are often trapped here and so also offers a good point to place the stop loss.

So these are my finding after two weeks in the market, I intent to practice, test and develop for a further 8 weeks up until the end of the financial year. Checking the market daily in the morning for higher metric set ups and putting in at least 1-3 hours a night to practice scalps and intraday set ups.

the first trade this week was a clear set up and followed the structure perfectly.

Agreement was formed (60/4) confluent with a clear stage of distribution followed by the initial markdown then to the last point of demand before falling to the target. This was a scalp trade. The initial agreement which was outside the momentum line then accumulated outside the opposite momentum line onlower timeframe.. leaving it a 50/50 at this point but the tip confirmed direction.

Validation

Everyone is seeking validation of some kind. It’s kind of how we fall in love if you believe in that stuff, or how we fall into friendships. We reach mutual agreements in trust and respect or a kind of social contract that says “I accept you”, “With me you are accepted”.
In any social setting what goes unsaid but is always going on is these seemingly clambering for the top. And at the end of the day it becomes a game of validation, who respects who. We say you are ok or you are not ok in many different forms. Like colors and shapes.
Unavoidably there is always some kind of hierarchy.
An example of where I am going with this is picture for a moment you are in some kind of game with a stranger. Your opponent and you have a close match and you respect his skill it comes down to the he wire and he beats you. You know it was a close game and your initial reaction is “wow that was a good game” but his reaction to you is to laugh at you in a provocative manner. The logical response to this is that your blood boils as he has invalidated you in a way in which you would not have done to him if the situation was reversed.
The reaction is an emotion alone as he has successfully pushed your buttons defied your own ego and invalidated your claims some appreciation and respect. But he has not pushed your buttons at all, you have pushed your own in holding his validation or lack thereof as having some kind of importance.
You have become dependent upon his response to justify your own view of yourself. This is a crazy philosophy to live by if you think about it. As everyone holds this power to validate or invalidate others, and assuming most people are interested in bettering themselves and their own egos and sense of hierarchy then you are victim constantly to a flawed philosophy that it is other people that define you.
People do not tend to like change in the short run, they like the frog in the slowly boiling pot get comfortable with the way things are, when they feel that their status quo is threatened in anyway they feel the itch and unconsciously seek to pull things back to the way they were. Our subconscious is always active and always operating in the interests of avoiding pain. Our fears and past experiences and a life time of invalidations from others mould our sense of danger and situations to avoid at all costs.
So, in saying all of this, what is the appropriate response to a world that seeks to keep you in a stunted stage of growth. I suggest that reversing the situation may be an interesting experiment. Going back to the example above what if the opponent that won had a dose of his own “medicine”. What if the situation were reversed and he lost ad you laughed at him. Which response would he validate?
It would seem that the desired or instinctual response is never the right one.

Nice Move short after getting munched twice in the range.. the spring back in made me think short but I went too early and learned that I was trading in the fray... Always trades that have accumulated beyond the Fray.

The botched long needs more thought. Perhaps going against the spring and the agreement at the time was mixed on multiple timeframes.

Beautiful beautiful move and obeyed all principals. Have close for 40 pips but target was lower// D6 ... Made back twice what I lost on previous trades and happy with the lesson.. Just Gorgeous

we are part of "plan", but don't ever try to figure it out, it's impossible! these problems do not exist because they belong to "sanity", which is nothing but an illusion.
Of course if you want to be "sane" and act "normal" when you're inpblic it's ok.

What I know for sure is that these so called rules always change, so I would call them "trends" lol.

Trade with the trend if you want to be safe.

If you want to be a contrarian you have to be crazy enough, yet not too crazy to be sent to the madhouse lolz, and create a new trend !
