Just a quick question as to whether any of your trading methods resemble this.
I'm still working on a basket strategy which in backtest seems to work. However the conundrum that really tests my patience is the large swings it can endure on a day to day basis. Using minilots over 15 pairs, it is not uncommon to see my equity swing 1% or 2% in a day, sometimes several per cent up or down over the course of a week. This can be incredibly nerve-wracking as gains over a month may vaporize in a day leaving me frustrated and convinced that the method is failing. Yet come the end of the month, I find I have ultimately made modest gains, perhaps 1% or so. Of course I have spent much time trying to find the extra element that will filter out some of those drawdowns and just let the gains accumulate, but nothing works; I have to let my equity swing 1% or 2% a day just to make 1% at the end of the month.
So I'm wondering if this is characteristic of many other systems out there? Many talk about R/R and 60%+ hit rates etc, but by using a basket, I'm ignoring indicators and trendlines and trusting the market to know which direction it's heading rather than me. Anyone else dutifully make, for example 1% a month by accommodating 1% or 2% swings on a daily basis? Is this normal?
