Excellent post. I found that out very quickly by demo trading as most of my positions move against me for at least 1 bar. When I first started seeing this my inital reaction was panic. But most of the time the position seemed to end in a profit (usually while I was sleeping... thanks London ). I see why the "mental" part of trading is so important.

Here are 3 options in no particular order:

 

  1. Use an indicator that calculates a slope value. The calculated slope is independent of how you scale your chart. Figure out the slope values that correspond to the angles you want.
    Ex: TMSTDI_WatchDog
  2. Set your chart to the size you prefer to use. Do some visual back-testing to find out what the angles of the good trades look like on your preferred chart size.
  3. Set your charts to the same size/zoom as Big E uses and use similar angles as depicted on the charts he posts.

Hey guys. I decided to clean up my metatrader by getting rid of all those useless indicators and starting up a new one nice and clean. But now I get this on all the charts. It goes straight from April 2009 to July 2011 leaving a huge gap and making current candles very difficult to read. Anyone know a solution? Thanks.

You may have gotten some corrupt history files in your MT4 installation and lost some data. That's my guess.

I'm not sure this will work, but give it a try it won't hurt anything:

Click Tools/History Center
The History Center window will open
Navigate to one of the pairs you are having trouble with
Double click it, and it will expand out all the TFs
Now double click each TF, starting with the highest to lowest
First the icon will turn from gray to green and yellow
It will take a few seconds or maybe minutes, but then you will see the data populate

I think this procedure downloads the price data from your broker
DO NOT CLICK THE DOWNLOAD BUTTON AT THE BOTTOM! (It will pop up a warning anyway). That will open a connection to somewhere else and download from someplace that is not your broker, and you want your broker's data.

Try it with one pair first to see whether that fixes it. Good luck!

possible fixes

File - Profiles - Default or a saved profile

Load up an existing template

Shut down and Restart MT4


Restart computer

last option - upload new version of MT4 and start again unless you are live trading

RSI 13 period applied to Typical Price (HLC/3)

Moving Average 3 period shift 3 smoothed applied to RSI indicator

It's not an exact copy, but it's very close.
how do you put one on top of the other? I can produce both but I cannot figure out how to put the MA on top of the RSI. Anyone know as I am not certain the original poster is still around. Thanks
Ahhhhhhh fiddlesticks! Thanks very much for the suggestions, guys. I tried both but neither worked. Looks like I might just have to move the chart as far left as she goes and then wait 3 - 4 days. But the problem with that is s/r will still be messed up.

Hi gang just stumbled across this thread and it amazes me how much everytime I come across a thread where people say they are making money it is because they are using a variation of the Jo Ross 123 technique (google it
Once you know that technique you will see that the TDI indicator and the stoch and also the MA are actually not needed to trade this.
You just need to look for a 123. The TDI actually throws out bad signals as well as good. In my mind it just gets in the way of good trading. So too does the stoch.
The 123 is all you need! Linux Troll discovered that with his rainbow trading which is very popular, this thread has discovered it and so too has any other thread where people make money - because it works! If you really want to improve trading this system look for a 123 before you pull the trigger
See my chart for details. The 123 has all you need! Once the 2 has been breached place you trade and use the amount of pips from 2 -3 as you trarget. Place your stop under the 3 and forget all about the TDI it just confuses you

As you can see the TDI thru out all kinds of signals and would have you making and losing money. But look at the 123 trades. Oh and BTW Info on the 123 by Joe Ross is freely available on the net and whether the previous poster likes it or not. The system is a variation on the 123 pattern. Just using squiggly lines to show the same thing but not as well

I personally do not care if it is freely available or not, as long as newbies and others are aware of that information

I thank you for your valuable insight, however this thread is the TMS system, not the 1-2-3 System. Find the 1-2-3 System thread to post onto, please --don't clutter this thread.

You guys are typical posters who are more concerned with making your square wheels work than seeing something new and adopting it. Be aware newbies. There is a more accurate way to make money using the candles on this system and dumping everything else. Thos who say go find another forum are more concerned with their own egos than they are about learning somethng new.
I am so sorry to have hurt your feelings --it was not my intent -- merely to keep in the spirit of the one who began this thread.
Of course there are many ways to make money using the candles on this system -- some may even thing it is more accurate. It is up to everyone to try and see if they like TMS, and if not, go somewhere else....like you said, do a google search and find the system you like.
I am certainly alert to something new and adopting it......that is how most of us found this system.
Merely wanting to keep this thread clean, and with the TMS System -- others may call it what they want. Others may like similar systems, and want to show their expertise in finding similar "just as good" systems.
This thread is for TMS -- plain and simple.
Again, sorry to have hurt your feelings, it was not my intent.

There are certainly other ways of making money in forex and as you suggest perhaps more accurate. As the previous poster indicated, your insight is valuable, however perhaps more appropriate to another thread.

Btw, I can assure you I am no king of anything, I am just trying to learn to trade, and at this stage concentrating on learning to trade TMS, that's all.

Looks OK to me, perhaps as a confirmation tool, can you walk us thru the next trade as it happens in real time?

As charts are so easy to read with 20/20 hindsight.

Also, with the last failed setup, wouldn't your # 2 be the next # 1, and the # 3 be the # 2 bar for an up move, with the # 3 being about 3 bars further along?
