In percentage terms how much are you up or down since the beginning of year?? I know this will vary significantly depending on your trading style and risk tolerance. I am just curious to how other traders who are active on this forum are doing regarding their respective return on equity. I will be the first to start. I have been up and down and after a very good run this past week i am happy to report that i am up "61.25%"

Hi Friend,

I just went live this week on a mini account with a 300.00 balance. I had some terrible trades last night, which took me from a 80% profit to 20% profit for the week.

I wasn't following my system that I have in place, and got way to grabby, and got whipsawed multiple times, only to see my original direction take place after letting the transaction go.

Week 1 complete. +83.29 / 300 = 27.76%

It is up to me to curb my emotions and trade how I am suppose to trade. I know this is not a lot of money... but the margin in Forex will allow this to grow quite reasonably. For now I stay at 1 lot per trade and that gives me plenty of breathing room until I get myself more under control. There was no reason for my actions last night other then my own faults... which caused the loss of nearly 60% of my profits. I have learned my lesson to be patient...

Very good question as I would question a return like that as well. It is only 1k so I am taking much larger risks than I would with 10k or 100k account size, however, still using a MM strategy and not just gambling.

The annoying thing about learning to keep your emotions under control is that it takes losses and your ability to stick to it. If you're making 80% a week you are going far too crazy. You wont last long. You wont listen to me though. You should think about putting 3k in an account and trying to make those same profits. There's little emotion to it. Losing 50$ on a 3k account doesn't feel so bad. One thing i recommend is that you dont overtrade. If you lose a trade, then dont trade for 30mins. If you can stick to that then you can be successful. 35% this year.

I'm happy to see the majority are up big time. I hope to join "the club" of profitable traders later, at the moment I'm down 10% starting from 1st January.
forget about tomorrow, just steal away into the night

Thanks for the advice. Yes -- that huge loss I took last week was do to exactly what you were saying -- over trading. I was trading just to trade. Trying to make my money back quick only to watch it continually dwindle away in omission and small spikes.

I have since taken a step back and am now testing methods (demo account) over the longer time frames.

Much bigger draw downs but I shall see where this heads... The biggest thing that is killing me is the draw downs though. I just can't seem to make decent entries. It's only over time (which isn't a bad thing) that the transaction turns back into profit. Averaging into a loosing position is not something I would think prudent as well. Unless you are 100% Certain of the direction and this is only a minor correction. But how can we ever know? Test away I go...
