So you guys are trading like pres78, highest volume of the previous day as trigger matrix?

I'm using them but more dynamic since I'm a scalper,

I fib the wrb better volume style of the 5 min and I drop to the 1 min.

Price needs to be above the 50% and the trend of the 5 or 15 min needs to be up

And I completely agree the edge for the retail and for most professional is to trade with the trend.

Even with vsa and you get a reversal it will not go as far as you think to take profits

Just a piece of friendly advice..

Just keep things simple with VZA, trade the trend. Price only breaks out on one side of the HVZ. Only look for entries at the 50%, get your trade to BE and let it ride.

The absolute biggest advantage we have as retail is the ability to get in and out of positions very quickly. With that advantage we get out quickly when things aren't going as planned, with that same advantage we can set trades to BE and ride trades with no negative risk. Stay on the H1 and forget about scalping for the time being, get out when the trade isn't working and BE and hold when the trade does work. Use a big time frame like H4 or daily for areas to TP, you can use HVZ on those or whatever method you like for finding S/R.

I've always said if you want to trade against retail, it isn't about taking the opposite side as them.. Retail are quick to TP and slow to cut losses, trade the opposite of that!
People always hate showing losses, which I get. Someone will always chime in and say well if you did this thing you wouldn't have had that loss or some BS. Truth is, in trading you need to have a very short memory.. you have to forget your losses and try to not think too hard about them, a lot of times a loss is just a loss and theres nothing to learn from it.

Last Friday I had a short on CADJPY, even got the trade to BE+1, and with today's gap up I was stopped out today for 80% of my original SL. If you can't be ok with this, then trading isn't the right profession for you. (for some reason my volume repainted, at the time of the trade, the fibb'ed bar was the HVZ).

Luckily today GU gave an entry, since price was at the bottom of the HVB I went with a tight SL of 15 or 16 pips. Its almost up 2R, this is our advantage.

I've stated this in a pervious post, but it bears repeating. There are two ways to create the Trigger Number Matrix (TNM)/High Volume Zone (HVZ): Statically or Dynamically. If using the static method, one would FIB the previous day's highest volume interval (H1). If using the dynamic method, one would FIB the most recent highest volume bar (trading chart).

Nice. Long above HB, Short below.

Also remember that the ideal trades have an entry signal with at least one tic/pip on the Trigger Numbers: 0%,50%,100% (25%,75% if using my expanded matrix).

I agree in the importance of trend for the retail trader. But what Anotan said may just be the single best thing I have ever read about trading.

It was kinda a shitty month for me.

The first week of Oct. I was up 7.5RR and today closed all my trades and I'm completely flat for the month at 4.5RR.

Something that you have to be careful about is over trading, lets say you're a day trader. During London you find yourself a nice win for 2R after that win you're satisfied and wait for the next session. US session comes and you take a loss for 1R, then go in for a second trade. See the problem? If one trade was good enough for you in London, then one trade should have been good enough for you during US. Some days are easy to trade, others can be a pain. Take your shot, if it works then great.. If your trade doesn't work out, learn to stay out.

The DOW NYSE session bars chart has the initial elements of Selling Climax, lots of effort with not such great results.
Gaps created during the last NYSE session have not been filled.
Retest bearish bar with smaller volume would a great sign of things lining up to establish long positions.
Patience is required for market to discreetly display and confirm its intention/s.

The US election is a factor to be aware of, and be ready to accept the unexpected.
In choppy water and high wind reef the sails and proceed carefully, if at all, otherwise ??? expect a margin calland a lot of .

I am flat, do not have guts to go short, though some kind of retest usually follows PA similar to what has happened today.
One problem I have with shorting this current PA is how to determine risk, and anyway I want to stay flat over the weekend.
Lots can happen , both in the US and in the world.

DOW NYSE Sessions M30TF perspective
Upper price zone of the NYSE session has been established on a smaller volume compered to the volume of the last 5 days i (shadow volume bars are calculated taking the average x number of past days related to that particular bar in time - I set that to the last 5 days) Blue bar is larger, red bar is smaller , both compared to the size of the shadow bar- bottom window
Top widow displays accumulated volume of a given numbers of bars, this one is set to correspond to the NYSE session, so at glance the compounded volume can be compared with the previous session/s
Have been using this setup for years and sometimes during active trading on shorter TFs,

I posted a few months ago lamenting about my troubles with finding trades.

Since then I've decided to apply myself and have had moderate success in terms of profits.

There are still some thing that trouble me and I hope some of you could be of assistance.

All price movements occur either in ranging conditions or the market is trending.

According to VSA, the ranges at some point break and a trend develops which will again stop, and the price will move again within a range.

Once the price breaks out of a range, there is usually a test to see if the opposing side is gone and the price continues in the desired direction.

The problem with that is that the often the price breaks out of the range and just runs away and there is absolutely no pullback whatsoever.
This often seems to be the case in bear markets.

I remember reading somewhere that testing in bear markets often doesn't happen and that bear markets generally happen to be more volatile but shorter lasting (perhaps MTM?)

Second question is regarding high volume bars.

One of the principals of VSA is effort-versus-result. Bars with small bodies but large volumes indicate that the opposite side is entering the market and such bars would require testing.

But there are many high volume bars that are never retested, and the market just ignores it and continues on its way.

This is especially confusing as MTM states that once strength or weakness shows, it doesn't just disappear.

Your first question about bear markets that don't pull back. It's pretty common, you'll see a sign of weakness on the top like a no demand or whatever that will knock price sideways then suddenly youll see a wide spread down bar on high volume, known as a gotcha bar. Thing about gotcha bars is that there will be PA to the left of it, and that gotcha bar is price pushing down and through that PA. That down bar will be a major sign of weakness, sometimes price fall straight off that gotcha bar sometimes price will retest the mid point or high of the bar. Step into your trade on those sell in chunks.

Effort VS result bars or squat bars, not a fan of them in forex.. Maybe they work better in stocks. I like to see some spread and some body on high volume bars.

My intention is to post on this thread in relation to DOW and in accordance with the subject matter of this thread. (VSA)
For this purpose I am only posting DOW NYSE sessions candle bars, but VSA principles apply to all TFs
Alongside to VSA I also use other things in my overall trading strategy.
This strategy is assisting me in harvesting good profits.

A pullback can be as small as one interval. If you see a high volume UP bar and it is immediately tested (1-3 intervals later) that's a strong signal of strength and you might not get a deep pull back anytime soon. Assuming the Test doesn't fail of course.

The Market is always testing. Tests appear in Bear markets just as much as in in Bull markets. Failed Tests (in a Bear Market) are as powerful as No Demands. Remember, a Test is a Test for Supply, it fails when there is supply and passes when there is none.

There is also a thing called "Pushing through supply". The High volume UP bar may represent a willingness of the Smart Money to enter and absorb any supply that is present. In this case, the high volume UP bar is strength, not weakness.

Wouldn't this "pushing through supply" also require testing at some point?

Very often VSA points not to a fast and furious reversal or swing but PA continues to meander within the price zone for sometime before the market shows the clear direction. Current DOW scenario fits that type of PA, patience and discipline is required, part of that is to take profits when they are there, instead of being too greedy and ignoring S/R on shorter TFs.
Chart below is DOW M30 NYSE session, please note volume in context of ATR - very clear display and a good example of the utility of VSA.
Only some very unusual event might result in the VSA not to deliver expected results, black swans do happen, and market is set to try all of our perceptions and biases.

What a day for the DOW.
I am limited somehow to point that the pure VSA perspective has let me to be prepared for such a day.
There are days that PA and market disobeys our wishes and does its own dance.
Discipline and fast reaction/s were necessary if one traded DOW today.
Looks like a passible V type rotation, alternatively there might be a retest of todays Low.

Looks like rotation on DOW daily is confirming. Nice NYSE session bars.
There are other parts which makes me to take seriously that rotation on Daily and sessions charts.
