Hi Roman

Yes, V5a is no different to v6 in how the trade is determined, the only difference is the multiple retries on the order in case of re-quotes in v6.

Until I have chance to test the different models I can't really judge which is the better, I certainly don't want to discourage anyone who is prepared to do this essential testing work.

Who knows, between us we may find the perfect setup, I know from my own experience with EA's there can be several performance peaks in optimisation curves and it would not be the first time that I have stumbled...

Certainly I agree 100%. People need to be completely free to think in whatever direction they want to. That is the ultimate strength of this forum.

I want to apologize if my comment to SkyzerFX could have been misinterpreted in a way that I think his suggestions in his setup are inferior to yours.

However I was just not sure if we are all on the same page in regards to the difference between v5a and his suggestion. I would need to take a lot of blame for being arrogant if such a newbie to ea like me would not read very carefully what he would write in this blog.

but all this nice performance enhancement from 1123 to 1607 usd is evaporating if I test this on life. Then the original with ema 10 has 1227 usd gain and the alternative 1299. So not much of a difference in life version......

No problem Roman, you are doing a sterling job (sterling! no pun intended!).

The work that you and others are doing releases me to continue investigating other methods of trend determination and, with the help of other better coders than myself, iron out bugs in the coding and a host of other things!

Maybe I could take this opportunity to put forward a few ground rules:

Our aims must be to reduce the number of losing days, maximise the profit trades, reduce the losses and reduce the drawdown.

Drawdown is often ignored in favour of the other points but it is a very important factor in judging an EA's performance against others.

I think it is also important that testing be done using a broker that uses GMT all the year round, I made this mistake by using Alpari for my initial tests which means that for half of the year my test results were using the wrong start time, in turn this means that my results were also invalid.

You get the picture, for testing to work consistently for us we have got to work to the same standard.

We have a whole bunch of very strong characters that have taken an interest in this thread, for this I am eternally grateful because it makes up for my own inexperience and gives us a much better better chance of ending up with an EA that we can all use use with reduced risk!

We have seen some amazing results so far but we all know that currently there is a sting in the tail, eventually we will hit the dreaded stoploss!

So, this issue has got to be solved and I'm sure that with the help I am getting now from all those involved, we will find the solution!

Hi All,
no orders generated with version 6. I did a back testing and a big surprise was no orders generated even. I selected the default settings which generates many orders with version 5a but none on version 6. I did the testing from 01/01/10 to 03/05/10.
I have selected the show settings to false still the testing is very slow. I am totally confused.
I use Axisodl which is an Australian broker. With version 5a i found the broker time and GMT time is same and hence i am selection the offset as 0
did i miss anything?

Please help

Hi Elovv and kvellimalai

This is bad news, my demo and live accounts both traded on v6 and even on v4 (see my signature) as they all use the same way to generate the trade.

Please let me know if you find any reason, I can't see why myself!

That is a good point Taiyakixz, DLL must be allowed because I have left the CLOCK .dll function in the code!

That CLOCK thingy has caused more problems than it was worth!

Again, apologies for my ignorance......why do we need to switch DLL allowed on in version 6 and not in version 5 plse?

In v6 I tried to get GMT from a data feed and that required DLL to be allowed in the Expert Advisor settings, this was not included in v5a.

The v6 code checks that DLL is enabled and will prevent the EA from working if it finds that DLL is not enabled.

I should have removed this but I had hoped that I might get the CLOCK dll working at a later date so I left it in, my mistake!

Dear All,

I wonder if anyone tried comparing between:

1. Using V5a or V6 strategy of 1 position TP @ 22 pips and trail the remaining 1 position.

2. Using V4, double the position and TP @ 22 pips.

I wonder what would be the difference over time.

The reason i ask is that i receive trade signals from my broker to the trading platform on GBPUSD and EURUSD. 70% of the time, 1st TP was hit. <50% 2nd TP was hit. <30% 3rd TP was hit. It seems to me that if all 3 positions were closed out @ 1st TP, it would be more profitable.

Please note that the above is just my observation. I may be wrong.

Geoff,

Since my presence in this thread and started using the EA, i compare the positions with your mt4live result. All the time, both your account and mine took same positions with slightest difference.

Today, most if not all of you have sell and mine did a buy! Anything spooky going on?

Good point, I guess the only way we can find out is to back test each method and compare the results!

I arrived at the current settings using the optimiser tool but this does not necessarily produce the best result, it is only a guide!

I cannot see why your EA would place a buy order, the SMA was on a very definite down slope last night with no possibility of misinterpretation!

Which version are you using?
