You're right. It would have been stopped out shortly after the first, with a small loss, for a net profit.

I have been thinking about this... you could buy at the current ask and then place a sell limit at the ask plus spread higher. That way the market would pay the spread.

example buy at a current price of 1.3300 (ask) and a sell limit at 1.3303( assuming a 3 pip spread.) That would buy at the current bid price of 1.3297 and then the sell limit would activate at the bid of 1.3303.

The only down side is if the market did not fluctuate enough to hit the sell side. then you could convert the trade into a channel breakout trade or a channel trade to the median.

Thoughts?

I may have stated that earlier - with no disrespect to you or anyone else - When I stated it I was actually trying to encourage someone / anyone to take a swing at it.

I have no idea how to code - so for me it is anything but easy to code.

The reason I think it is best to post code is so that all ideas and changes and whatnot are not on you to code. If code is not posted - then you are literally the only one who can make mods without re-writing it all over.

The way these threads go - it usually ends up having 5 or 10 mods to accomplish best results... that is a ton of coding for anyone one programmer...

So, anyway, the strategy.

Using The FxORCE's suggestion, if it were re-written like this, it would accomplish the same thing, with one less spread to pay.

Start program.
Price is monitored.
If it varies, up or down, by more than B (min profit run target), then a stop order is placed in the opposite direction.
The stop order is trailed behind price by amount C, so that when the reverse occurs, the stop order is filled, then the retrace would be caught.
Once the order is executed, the stoploss would be D.

Sort of a "dynamic straddle". But not really a straddle since only one order is opened. A digital straddle of sorts. Intelli-strad. Actually it would be the opposite of a breakout trade. Breakdown trade.

Might catch false breakouts, which would be good, since most are false.

Here's the code for the hedge method.

Like I said earlier in this thread. Equity curves are pointless from MT4. It is easy to fool the back tester. He never posted the actual trades to compare against the real life market... It is unfortunate that when I was posting the need to be careful and not necessarily trust what you see from MT4, some other person posts an unsubstantiated e-curve like that one and people get all excited for it... This is why scams can prosper... (without proper evedence, the E-curve posted is useless)

Thank you!! I'll begin forward testing on several currency pairs and begin to post test results... I will try different settings - smaller settings should result in many more test results - we'll see how this goes.

Hello, I am new to this straddle method thing, esp using EA or script?

But I am also following another interesting thread by BurgerKing that discusses straddle using EA too. Would this by any chance be the same, or similar?

Do I have to keep my computer running, for it to take effect, and make its buy/sell?

I agree with you 100%. Backtesting is never going to be one's actual results. However backtesting is still a necessity and can give a trader a "glimpse" at what is taking place and/or might be possible, but still it never takes the place of testing a system live. Blueruby, thank you for sharing!!

I highly doubt this!! Here's some real backtest results with 90% modeling quality using 5 min data.

This thing dropped like a fly with no wings!

EDIT: @ Aegis. Your backtest chart shows increasing lot size. That can not be this same EA.

No, this is not similar to a news straddle such as BurgerKing's. Please read this thread and go through the examples and then ask questions if you'd like.

With an EA or Script (such as Burger King's), you would need to keep your computer running for the program to monitor the trades.

If you stop order, or a take profit on an open position, those will be in place whether your computer is on or not, they reside at the broker.

Whoa, sorry. The code is for the original (hedge) method. People were asking for it so I went ahead and gave it up. It's the same EA I posted earlier, just un-compiled.

kk - as i am testing it forward on GBPJPY, EURUSD, USDCHF it is opening positions and .... nothing... just hanging there open.... not closing them.

Any suggestions.... Anyone else having this issue - (and this time it is not on my laptop - this is on the dedicated trading server.

in forward testing something is acting up... it should be closing the trades and looping... thus far it has not closed the open trades... or looped

on 4 different charts....
Lots - 1
Min Profit - 5
TS win - 2
TS Lose - 2
Repeat - true

was this issue taken care of in new ver?? or just a personal problem... lol

This is a difficult thing to program as an EA. Not becuse of the code but because of the market. You can make good money using this strategy . You could enter anytime before the numbers on any pair with any size.You'll always be covered regarding margins. You just wait for momentum to end on one side and take profits, and then as soon as it moves back, you cut your loss at whatever you choice of pips. But you would have to be on the screens all the time and pinpoint the exact moment. I doubt a machine can do that. A very good trader could but, then again, a very good trader wouldn't trade this way. Might as well just buy both EUR/USD and USD/CHF with a correlation of -97 with a broker that offers 400:1 and make money on swap rates. If you get lucky the correltion moves in your favor and you make loads, otherwise you just increase the position by 1 lot at a time, wait for it to retrace and in the meantime just take the swap rates.
