Hey guys,

Have been around reading the forums for quite some time. I have really learnt much from forexfactory (maybe too much), and now I believe I should try my best to give back to the community.

I am not saying that by following my trades now, you will be able to make money. I am still not a profitable trader, and maybe that is why I am starting a journal here. From what I have read all these while, one of the main reasons for traders to be successful is that they keep a detailed trading log. This is what I aim to achieve here - posting every single trade, be it within or against my system, winning or losing. In this way, I will be able to control myself from going trigger-happy knowing that I have the community (and myself) to account to. I must admit that I am a scalper and I tend to enter trades based on every single minor resistance/support I see. I know that it isn't healthy at all, and it might be the main reason why I am not making money yet.

I hope that this journal will be an inspiration to many; looking at someone who starts with a mere $30 on FXCM micro, and growing his account to $50,000. I am not claiming that I will not be making any deposits. In fact, if I am doing well and have extra cash, I will constantly be depositing more funds to grow my account. Is this achievable? I don't know as of now, but it doesn't hurt trying, does it?

Another reason to start this journal is that I was inspired by Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich. For some of you who might not be familiar with his work, this is the exact portion of the book that inspired me to start this journal. It is none other than the 6 definite, practical steps for riches and success.

First. Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you
desire. It is not sufficient merely to say “I want plenty of money.”
Be definite as to the amount. (There is a psychological reason for
definiteness which will be described in a subsequent chapter).

Second. Determine exactly what you intend to give in
return for the money you desire. (There is no such reality as
“something for nothing.)

Third. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess
the money you desire.

Fourth. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire,
and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan
into action.

Fifth. Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of
money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its
acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the
money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend
to accumulate it.

Sixth. Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once
just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the
morning. AS YOU READ—SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE
YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY.

I am a huge fan of Napoleon Hill and self-improvement. Therefore, if I am unable to contribute in terms of trading for the time being, I will be posting snippets of quotes or passages that I find useful in my trading to share with the community.

First. Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you

$50,000

Second. Determine exactly what you intend to give in
return for the money you desire.
My time, discipline, concentration and commitment in learning price action and feeling the pulse of the market.

Third. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess
the money you desire.
1 August 2010

Fourth. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire,
and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan
into action.
Will be in detail in next post

I intend to acquire $50,000 by 1 August 2010. I will give my time, focus, energy, skills and concentration to learn the price actions of the market.

Sixth. Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once
just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the
morning. AS YOU READ—SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE
YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY.

Well, I must admit that my trading plan might still be subjected to changes, but as the topic represents, Zen Trading means I will keep the plan as simple as possible.

Currency: EurJpy. Just one pair.

Charts

I will be watching the 1 hour, 15mins, 5mins and a tick chart. The higher time frame charts will be candlesticks, whereas the tick chart will be a line chart.
Pivot lines will also be included as part of my trading strategy.

Well, I believe that my main focus will be on candlestick signals, chart patterns, trendlines, support/resistances etc. Possible areas I might delve into includes Fibonacci and MACD. I will definitely read up more on other price action patterns like those of Tom Demark and Joe Ross but I am a little hesitant to clutter my charts with lines.

Money management
As of now, for every $20 I will be trading $0.10/pip. This will carry on until I see a need to change the lot size.
Therefore, the first step now will be to trade $0.10/pip until I hit $40 balance.

I must admit that I am still at a learning phase of forex trading. Therefore, for those people out that who are more experienced, please feel free to point out my mistakes. I believe that that is the best way for you to help me.

At the same time, simple words of encouragement will definitely be appreciated. I guess trading is quite a lonely "job" and interacting with you guys on the forum will definitely be sometime I look forward to in my journey.

Another goal of mine will be to reach the 10v+ status. I believe that it is a status that shows that my trades are helping the future newbies, and that I am making a contribution to the community. This might not be something that I may achieve in the near future. I will not use solely that as a gauge of my contribution, but I believe that it is a good gauge, nonetheless.

Coming Monday I'll start posting my trades!

One thing I've read somewhere and something I definitely agree with is that trading isn't all about the money. Even though it is definitely a great source of motivation, I believe it is the passion and interest in wanting to understand how the market moves that makes this so interesting. I have friends who looks at my charts and wonder what's so interesting about them. At the same time, I have friends who insist that trading = gambling and that it is impossible to make a decent and consistent income out of it. Well I guess I have nothing to prove, but I believe that being a good trading will help me develop discipline to be a better person in life as well. No point gaining the whole world and losing your soul!

So you want 1666% return on your investment in less than a year? Thats what some of the best funds in the world-history did in 10 years +.

I'm a big fan of N. Hill myself, but you need to get some realistic goals.

Hey,

I did mention that I will be depositing more funds once I see good results. I have friends with big money who are looking for people to trade for them. If I do well, I will be adding the profits from my trading into my own fund. It's still too early to tell though! But I believe that it's achievable! Thanks for your feedback!

Good luck man! Shoot for the stars bro!

I'd rather shoot for the stars and hit a mountain than shoot for a hill and hit it!

You are about to get a real reality check. You have no idea what you are doing and how useless your silly pop psuedo-spiritual psych will be in this arena. Nothing in those books will prepare you for what you are about to face. Your going to have to push through after all your current beliefs have been shown wanting and your investor friends will be long gone by the time you finally realise anything like your original plan. Consider that this is the truth of the matter, what will you do in 2,3 4+ years time when the success you seek continues to elude you? you cant do it can you? that possibility is not on the radar at all
Best of luck, you have come to the best place in the world that I know of to train in self mastery, unfortunately, it takes longer than a few months as any zen master will agree

Thank you for the wake up call. I will definitely revise my goal based on the results that I see in the coming months. My main concern is improvement in trading skills and discipline, and I believe that the growth of the account will happen naturally.
