I think this method makes sense if a secular trend is in place.

I scale out of winners and not from lossers, but that is only because I scalp!
This approach is working for me. When I was a swing trader, that wasn't the proper way of working my positions. It is all relative to every individual. That is my oppinion.

Geez.... another "scaling X non-scaling" thread!

I guess it's some kind of Elliot Wave phenomena..

Take a look here:http://www.forexfactory.com/showthread.php?t=12273

Yes, pick any forex topic and it's a pretty safe bet that there are already several threads that cover it. Not picking on anybody in particular, but so many times a member starts a new thread to ask a question, and then waits several hours for a response, when he could have an answer within a minute through judicious use of the search facilities.

why the hell should i add to a losing position? this has absolutely no risk management to me.

we want to pick those trades, that are in our favor from the beginning. if the trades suck, dump them early without even a single thought. there are other opportunities and if price comes back to the previous entry level we can recheck for entrysignals.

adding to a winning position i also do, sometimes after 10minutes after inital trade when i see ongoing confirmation that the market will be gunned into my desired direction. nevertheless taking 50% of the position off after 1.5x initial stop size to make it a winner anyway.

scaling into loser is just another way of supporting hope that there still might be a way that the trade will turn into your favor.

i am also no friend of making the inital position 1/3 of the regular size and then add when price runs against me.

I don't see the point of you guys arguing about this. YES,the topis on this forum or any other are repeated over and over, that's a fact! So what? If that was not the case tha forum would be dead.

When somebody opens a thread, he(she) is, as hanover stated, looking for some of the great traders around here to show up and debate. BUt if those traders (think about magnumfreak, dopey, darkstar, jarroo, mike_w, bemac, acumen, cobra, ak4x, bilbss, peterfm...etc... to cite a few) have answered the same question over, and over, and over, and over, what are the chances they are going to stop here and do it again? As trading, this is a probability game...

Didnt mean to be rude on my first reply, and I apologize if it sounded that way...

Cheers!

Good Afternoon,

I wasnt offended Housetrader (still waiting on my Ea to share, getting coder dicked). I didnt think to search, will have to utilize it more. Sometimes I just like to spark up some trader conversation.

Im going to be testing some scaling methods because I believe it can be a capital booster in certain scenarios, will repost whether Im successful with them with the how, why ect...

Best Regards
Annoying Precision

hey erik..... been a while.... hope all is well.....

the past few weeks have destroyed many accounts here that add to losers.... some might think that has proved a point..... maybe..... maybe not.....

someone adding to losers out of denial is probably creating a bad habit.....

someone adding to winners out of denial is probably creating a bad habit.....
//----

however if someone has a proven time tested method, doing either or both seems acceptable to me.....

personally, i do both....... with equal care.....h
to trade and code, keep both simple... no call to impress....h
