I am having alot of trouble trying to get range bars to work for back testing some stradegies that would normally trade in a timeframe. I have followed the instructions posted here (I also downloaded the dpf) to the letter but I fail to get any results.
when I open MT4 after selecting the CRB as server things are good I think then I open a 1 min chart and apply the script then ?
if I select a 5min chart in the tester properties thats what I get and not with range bars.
There's no open a offline chart message anywhere so I am stuck.
Am I over looking something really simple

*** Update *** After giving this thought over night I relised that I needed to change the Time Frame setting in the script to 5 minutes (instead of the default 2) to get it to show.
I found a big problem when viewing backtest (visual mode) with Renko bars with MT4. This will lead to wrong backtest or optimizing result.
If the type of bar (up bar or down bar) of the last 2 bars are not the same type, then the last one will be drawn in wrong direction.
For example, bar[1] = up bar. If the next bar is also an up bar, there is no problem. But if the next bar is a down bar, this latest down bar is drawn from tail to head (from bottom to top) which not it suppose to be.
I know that this is because the nature of Renko chart (the open of the last bar can jump), but is there a way (an MT4 program/script?) to make the drawing of the last bar is exactly like the same way happens in real live chart?
At least the open[0] sits in the initial position until the whole renko is constructed, not sitting at the (after happened) position?
This makes a big difference for optimizing / backtesting with Renko charts.
Has anyone put together an EA that will place trades based on renko charts?
After reading sections of several threads on renko bars I see that there may be some issues with making an EA to trade from offline charts but it does seem to be possible.

Well, every EA which is trade-able can be used on my off-line Renko charts (and other off-line charts as well). Personally I prefer Constant Range Bars and looking on popularity they are preferred by more traders over Renko. Renkos, IMHO are little bit too Japanese for me ;-)
The mismatches which are given are from volume exhaustion. I don't know what is an algorithm that metatrder backtester uses for showing these mismatches. Therefore I don't know now how to force metatrader to show beter modeling quality. However, when I think about it I would not worry about this at all. The reason is that form definition all renko bars are made from 1 min bars and backtesting goes down always to 1 min. There are no other time frames involved in this. Best modeling quality in backtest with M1 data from HistoryCenter is 25%, so backtesting renko is very missleading. I download tick data, and can do 99% MQ backtest with regural time frames, with renko on this data I get that lime 99% progress bar BUT many mismatched chart errors. I am looking for solution for renko 90% backtesting too.

25% on 1m is equivalent to 90% on all higher TF. Just look at the quality formula. In all cases exactly the same modeling ticks are used.
As I've written, Renko will always mismatch because of their construction and checks the metatrader backtester is doing. For example, the backtester checks if volume of the higher TF is a sum of the 1 min volumes. This is simple in eg 5 min TF, you sum 5 one min bars. Now, how many 1 min bars is contained in 1 renko bar? Nobody knows, even the backtester, hence the mismatches.
Therefore, there is no solution for the problem you are looking for. There will be never 90% or 99% modeling quality in backtester of the metatrader. However, if the problem is 'how to backtest renko accurately?' Then the answer is, read my FAQ file, take the latest Renko version with the backtest switch set true, and the what you get with backtest renko is almost the same as the forward test.
Can someone explain to me how I could run my RenkoLiveChart_v3.1 EA on the trading simulator ? GBP/USD 10 pip Renko bricks with wick's on.

As far as I know, there is no backtest switch on RenkoLiveChart_v3.2, RenkoLiveChart_v1.7, or s-Renko bars.ex4 commercial script

Off course I mean this one which is constantly improving and with support from the author (me). The current version is #12 from March 19th 2010, s-Renko bars.

I've made a tutorial on my blog ForexElite about how to visually backtest renko. This is a great way to quickly test your strategies and gives you more information then just looking back at the charts.
If anyone has had luck auto backtesting please let me know, when I try it nothing happens.

I've been working on setups for use on 34 pip renko range bars the last couple of weeks so it may come in handy someday if I can ever get renko charts working in the backtester again.
