i use two diff computers to trade, a destop and a laptop, the problem is, when i am out somewhere with my laptop and i make some annotations on a chart, some channels fibs trendlines etc, and then want to use my desktop the only way to get those annotations onto my desktop is either save it and email it to my self as a template or reprodce them manually.

is there any way so that when i have my MT4 open on both computer, what i do on one MT4 will automatically reprocduce itself on my other open MT4, if i am logged into my account on both MT4's?

that would save alot of god damn time.

One possible way is to use a VPS(virtual privete server) and just use remote logon from all pc's. The is the only way I can see doing that.
Run it off a usb stick - that way you run the same copy all the time.

I havent tried it but I'm sure it would work.
You sure can, here's how I do it for XP. I dumped Vista a while back so I'm not sure of the exact steps for this.

1) Network your two computers together.

2) Go to your program files folder and right click on your platform folder

3) Select sharing and security

4) Check the box "share this folder on the network"

5) Go to your laptop, open My Network Places

6) You should see the platform folder there, open it and then start terminal.exe

You will get prompt to run this program, just click yes or ok.

You will probably be asked to login again.

That's it. Your changes will be updated on both ends.
If you're out and about and away from your network, look into a remote desktop.

Search on google "remote desktop", it will give you a good start on how to do this
I second the use of a VPS. Not only can I access it from anywhere, I can also count on the reliability of the company's backup and business continuity support. Its much less stressful than having to make sure that one of my machines is always on and that my internet connection hasnt gone bad
why not just save whatever you did as a new template, then email that template to yourself and open it on your laptop. no need for anything fancy like servers or whatever. just a good ole email.

It works very well with MT4 and I have a couple workspaces saved for my accucharts package that I run as well.

If you have autosave logins on your accounts tho, you might want to encrypt access to the stick...

It's easily done with some free utilities. I use a stick to backup my platforms every few days anyway.

If you want to use the exact same copy with little hassle, you can use logmein.com, basically tis a remote desktop you can log into your computer at home you will be on that computer. This one works great because its free and it will go through a router takes a password to log in and its very very eas to use and secure. So you will basically just be controlling your laptop. And its accessed from there website through your browser and supports full screen.

FYI, I run MT4 off a USB stick. Works fine. I just copied the folder (Interbank FX Trader 4) from my desktop to the stick. I ran it on a few machines with no problems. It even updated MT4 without incident. Just have to enter account and password the first time.

I second the USB stick method. I actually do it off of my phone. Then again, as a funny experiment I've run windows off of my phone before too...Don't ever do it, it is so god awful slow.

I think it is not a good idea to have shared folders on the network, as through port 138 (which this function uses) anyone can get the complete content of your hard disk, even if you only are sharing just a single folder.
In fact it is recommended to uncheck the "Microsoft Network client" and "Share printers and files on Microsoft Networks" in the local area connection properties, for this reason.

I didn't believe this until I was told how it could be done and checked myself, I could access everything on the other computer, through the browser... scary stuff! (don't ask me how though, as I don't remember, that was two years ago)

I didn't go into the nuts and bolts of a secure network, but yes under a dial-up connection most definitely, you are correct.

If you have a router with NAT and a software firewall (not the windows POS either), it should be safe enough from the outside world.

I personally have my adsl modem connected to a linux firewall on a separate dedicated machine, and then my LAN below this. So someone would have break through my router firewall and my hardware firewall.

My set-up is over the top though

I would like to make sure that I have a continuity and disaster recovery plan for my MT4 trade station. I am running a robot and would like to have multiple locations using different power and broadband providers. I would like to have each server running mt4 on the same broker and same account number live. In the event of a server crash or power/broadband outage at location #1, I want location #2's server to take the lead without my robot skipping a beat. This will give me greater assurance that the robot will run but my ea's at both locations need to be live. If location #1 goes down and then I bring location #2 up live it will have different settings and my money management will be changed. I didn't know if I could set up a system whereby location #1 is default and location #2 is on a slight delay, but is also live. The delay will keep location #2 from entering or existing trades because it will just pick up location #1 transactions and show it in the terminal. Does anybody have any information on:
1) if this can be done with mt4 with more than one location mirroring the default location mt4 and everyone running live?
2) if yes, can you provide the instructions on how to do it
3) perhaps I could use a service like logmein two link all of my computers together and have remote monitoring capability from any location?

Any info you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated. This is a major flaw in my trade system so I have to have CPDR. THANKS!
