I don't dare to say it..But it's been in the back of my mind forever now.

stagflation

n. Sluggish economic growth coupled with a high rate of inflation and unemployment.

From what I can remember bout economics, we seem to be close if not there. Although the sluggish economic growth could be argued. Would like to here your thoughts.

I do not use this method, but if I am right:
since 08/05/2008 price at 1.5276 we have at daily chart:

1 -1.5276
2 -1.5810
3 -1.5364
4 -1.5830
5 - Currently, this is where I think will do the surprise, every bulls are waiting again a up move from 1.5350 area to kill the counting, but this currently wave will not stop where most are thinking!!

If I am wrong about Wave counting, forgive me because I do not use this system!

Hey Triq... Just came across this little excerpt off of Google News and thought it was pretty interesting.

"Given negligible recent growth, the economy can already be described as stagnant. But as with a ham-and-cheese sandwich, one ingredient is not enough. To get stagflation, you also need inflation. And contrary to popular impression, that has yet to show itself."

How much longer do you think it will take for gas price costs to trickle down from the company to the consumer? It's already started in parts of the food industry - a place where I buy lunch finally increased the pricing of their menu a few weeks ago which was exclusively due to increased shipping costs. The price of basic things such as milk and eggs is up at the grocery store.

Inflation is coming, whether they want to report it or not.

The problem with inflation in the US though it the way they work it out. It's adjusted so it doesn't go up or down sharply so it might not appear in the figures for a while. All the time food and energy costs go higher and people real time see it more quickly.

Absolutely, the way they calculate inflation is just insane. Food and energy
are not included! Nobody I know eats food, or uses energy. Right.
There's a lot of good articles on this website, check them out.

Thanks for the article. As stated below, how much longer do we need? With oil prices ultimately reaching 200+ I don't think stagflation is avoidable unless America can get its economy back on its feet; which I highly doubt will happen anytime soon. Take care

Agreed. I think that some companies are going to start passing higher costs on to consumers very soon (if they haven't already), but will resist as long as they can without gouging their revenues. At the same time, one of the main goals of the Fed is to control inflation. But they haven't exactly done this in an efficient manner in the past, so who knows how effective they will be this time around? Thanks for the post.
