Today during the ECB presser, I experienced no lagging quotes/charts and my DeskTop PFL never froze.
Ignored
I did experienced some lagging. The highest lag that i observed was a delay of about 4 seconds. However the lag experienced depends on several things like what quote server are you connected to, what amount of symbols and at what lever are you subscribed to etc.
I'm not insane; my mother had me tested.

Jason not only explained last week's lagging quotes/charts on this thread, MB also sent out an email with the explanation to every account holder.

I can now also confirm that I did not experience any problems during ECB press conference. I am positively surprised and if service will continue like this, I will have nothing to complain.

Hi,

I would like to know how much more or less when you use Pay 4 Limits or Free Exn when the market goes sideways.

Pay 4 Limits theres commission that you have to pay.

Free Exn theres spread built into pricing.

If an indicator trigger entry signal in choppy market which option would cost less?

Glad to hear it.

Tomorrow's NFP announcement will be more taxing on the quote server.

In a press conference the information comes out piece by piece and not all in one shot like this most volatile of economic releases. Trade carefully if you must venture into those waters.

The quotes are largely the same and makes no difference. If you use a lot of Limit orders, you get paid to shave out some of the spread. If you use mostly market order, FREE EXN is probably the better route. I've run tests and I really don't think it matters much in the end unless you really skew either 100% with or 100% without Limit orders.

Can someone tell me why I was getting major slippage today?

I placed a market order sometime after 11:00 EST today, and it took an entire TEN seconds for it to finally execute, at which point EUR/USD had already slipped up higher.

I got 5-10 pips of slippage again later on when I tried to manually close the trade.

This was using Desktop.

I can clearly see this from the Order Book, as it shows the time difference from when I placed the entry/exit orders to when they were ACTUALLY triggered/executed.

And the order was only a few...

Most people aren't experiencing this (minus the issue last week that MB already addressed), so the best answer is to do some work (they will help you) in checking the route between you and them. Ten seconds on news...maybe. Ten seconds on no news...shouldn't happen. Also, are you sure the fills are ten seconds off or just that you aren't seeing it back for ten seconds. There is a difference.

Can you tell me whether slippage/delayed execution would get worse the larger your position size, or is it relatively "equal?"

In other words, would I have experienced an even longer delay in execution had I placed that same trade yesterday but with a few standard lots, or even tens of standard lots?

That is what concerns me most.
Ignored
On news, it is more likely that an order gets split into pieces as the market fragments, so I guess in theory, on news, a bigger order could take longer for some pieces to fill. Otherwise, I've seen no difference when I trade 1 lot or 50.

I dont know if its gets better or worse with bigger lots. In my opinion it's already bad enough. Whenever there is major news or events the whole system stops working. Either the quotes are 10-20 pips below/above the real quotes or like today at ECB rate decision the platform just freezes.

If you are scalper like me, this makes profitable trading very difficult and is really poor service. I know already that when ECB press conference starts, Desktop Pro platform is either freeze or quotes are several minutes delayed.

I am surprised that...

I experienced no freezes today on the ECN press.

I just received a reply from the MBT rep in response to my inquiry:

For TTO orders we state in our website that "Once the market trades at either [upper trigger or lower trigger] price, a market order is sent", which then competes with other incoming market orders for execution. Given that you trade only micro-lots, keep in mind that as your order is being sent to the market place, sometimes the destinations may reject an order due to quantity being too small or illiquid, in which case the order is resend.

For example, in a given time and price at a destination if the available quantity for execution is 100,000 currency and your order has a quantity of just 1,000 currency, it is possible the destination may choose to execute against orders with higher quantities like 10,000 or 100,000 currencies first and then either fill or reject your order, in which case your order will be resend causing a slightly longer than an instant fill.

I wanted to know if this was a logical, feasible explanation ... or if it's crap I'm being fed? I figured the experts around here would probably know.

He also wrote this:

However, you should always contact the Trade Desk to status any market order that is taking more than 5-10 seconds for a fill and we can investigate the reason at the time ... On another note, please contact our Client Support at 1-866-628-3001 to make sure that you have a solid connection with our trade servers. As weak connections due to internet issues may also cause latency in transmitting instructions to and from your platform.

It's funny, because at least three or four separate orders from the past two days have taken up to TEN seconds to execute (including close).

But now that they've outright said that, you can be damn sure I'm going to bring it up with them IMMEDIATELY the next time it happens (which I'm guessing will be tomorrow).

As for the "internet connection" part, there is no problem on my end. The delay is between the time the order is received and the time it is executed ... not between the time I place the order and the time THEY receive it. This delay shows in the order book. Ten seconds between order received and order executed. This was yesterday. Today it was 5-10 pips slippage on TTO exit (twice). So not my connection at fault.

And as for the TTO/close, well ... the closing price was several pips away from the TTO I set ... that obviously has absolutely nothing to do with my internet connection.

Ridiculous that I have to deal with not only the market but apparently my broker as well.

Ironically, I didn't have issues at all with the platform last week, as some people have complained about ... it started happening suddenly yesterday, which is what makes it suspicious.

reven8e-

I apologize for any issues you are experiencing. Please private message me your account number (or email: [email protected]) and I will look into the executions and see what we are seeing on our end. I'm not aware of any slow fill issues this week, other than what can happen on news, of course. Also, the answer that you were given about the micro lots is not accurate, and if you know who gave you that reply, I would like that information as well.

Our system treats any order size equally and does the exact same thing with any order, regardless of size. There is no such thing any more as banks or liquidity providers that won't take smaller size, so just because your order is smaller will have zero impact on the speed of a fill, period.

Thank you, another representative named Michael Blosser pre-emptively sent me another message stating that the information I had been given by the first rep was "inaccurate" and also stated that the reason for the execution delays were:

In reading the response from the MBTF representative, I would like to better answer your question as to why certain orders took several seconds to fill. All 3 orders in question, took place on Sept. 5, 2012 (10:00, 10:13 and 10:30 am ET). The length of time to obtain executions appears to be related to "server configuration issues at our primary price server farm"

Hopefully that is the only reason, as such delays have been very rare in the past, and it was extremely odd to experience a handful of ten second delays (both entry and exit) in a row (this included the trades I made on Sep 6, not just the day before).

We did not experience any technical issues during the time you referenced, and the website has also been fine and accessible. Trading has been operational since start up Sunday afternoon. Did you contact support?

Maybe not for you, but there were problems for me.

It was strange because, when I logged in to ninjatrader, it complained problem with perms when connecting to MB Trading. Then I tried MBT desktop, again, problem with perms. Then I went to both the US and the UK websites (searched via google), and both were down (google telling me they were not found). My internet connection was fine, all other sites loaded, my charting was updating every second, only MB Trading had a problem.

About 15 minutes after my post above, it came online, but it was extremely slow for a while. Been ok for the rest of the day.
