Suddenly i encountered a MT4 freeze (Free EXN only but not PFL) in last 20minutes and it is still freezing at the moment of writing.

I have witnessed 2 times of freezing this month. Well I guess this is something new again.

Justin could you please investigate if this is a tech issue again.

Um, IB charges a commission per trade and executions are some of the worst out there. Learned that lesson the hard way.
Ignored
I pay 2.95US a side per 100K (price scaled) with MBT for a tighter spread, I get paid 1.95 for liquidity on limits

I pay 2.50US a side per 100k Blocks (no scaling) with IB, no credit for liquidity.

I Care nothing about the commission because they are reasonable and small size scalable with MBT is a better bargain for smaller trade size.

The query is about the spread!

The matter is 3.5 pips on MBT costs $70US round turn per 100K

With IB I can do the same RT for $20US per 100k

AND I have no execution issues at all with IB ECN after 5 years of use.

Difference is in execution location: about $50 due to spread, that's 5 pips per RT

The fact that MBT also allows commission free trading with a slightly wider spread calls into question whether the commissioned model might also have a spread built in as well.

So all ECNs are not equal

Bingo! Thats the best kept secret.

But people here on FF don't care about these kind of "details" because they are either losing money.BE, or making little money so MBs pay-per-limit is a big deal for them.

When you start to be consistently profitable making decent money commissions and spreads start to play a secondary role because a unstable platform can make a lot more damage.

Are Plus orders specific to MBT or other brokers also have something similar?

Typically you do market + limit order each turn so commission are lowered to 1.00 RT plus spread, I don't know if you ever try MB Desktop Platform but I have never had any type of problem with execution or platform stability. I agree with you unstable platform can be very dangerous but this is not the case of MBT Desktop ones. All people on this thread complain about stability but they always use MT4 and honestly I can't understand why they still use a such crappy piece of software!

MB's platform issues extend beyond MT4. Try using the web or mobile platform. Good luck with that....

I do agree the MB Desktop is stable. It's user interface is junk but it does work. Software is not the strongest part of MB's offerings.

Haven't had any real issues with the web app other than the charts could sure be more interesting. Mobile works fine for me (Android) but there seems to be a lot of complaining about the iPhone version. I'm on the go a lot and the Android version hasn't let me down for months since they got it stable. I also have an MT4 account with them for certain situations, and that Mobile app is super quick and responsive (again, on Android, not sure on others). You can place a trade on it while watching MT4 Client on your computer and the order pops up as soon as you hit the button.

The B on MB stands for BETA, meaning they are permanently in beta testing

Not just you. Got me also. I had a live trade, luckily in the right direction. At first freeze i exited. I could have made more but at least i got out with a profit.

Left is a different broker and right is MBT MT4. (both 1min EUR/USD) I understand it is news related but the EUR/CAD was perfect through it all. Overall I had 13 min worth of freezing.

Wasn't intentional, was no scheduled news. Still not positive what caused the move, I was already short before.

Ditto. The MT4 EXN platform is a joke. Time to withdraw and move on.

Just like what happened to the MT4 freeze on PFL a few months ago, Justin wont entertain this kind of complaint unless more and more people making noise.

Oh ya we should contact their support instead of complain here, but I guess their support will say this is not their problem without doing any investigation.

I am not using MT4, instead i am connecting directly to the quote server. Problems with the quote server are unfortunately quite common and have been happening for years. When there is a lot of activity in the market and therefore a lot of quote updates are happening, the quote server often has problems handling it - seems like either the quote server itself or the network infrastructure can not push quote updates to the clients fast enough, the quotes start to lag and if the backlog grows too large the quote server drops the connection.

Here are my log entries from yesterday and from today showing the disconnects (the timestamp timezone is GMT+2).

Do those times by any chance correspond wit the freezes and missing price data in MT4?
I'm not insane; my mother had me tested.

No it didnt match the freezing time on Free EXN.

I have checked both PFL and Free EXN and it happened on Free EXN only. Since the API quote is the quote for PFL therefore I think your quote should be fine when the Free EXN freezed in last 2 days.

Too bad there is no way to look at the level 2 quote of Free EXN, but my best guess is the negative spread happened (again) when it freezed.

My MBT contact has passed on my concerns to the desk team, but I have already taken my money and transferring it to another broker. I have several brokers and I will keep this account open. I suggest you do the same. TradeStation is a good option, but please do your own due diligence.

I have been toying with a couple of demo's today and I have to say that MBT has the tightest spreads, highest volume, and best execution of the others I have tried. Although I am comparing live to demo. I am no expert on the operation of the MT4 platform but if the stability can be rectified this (in my opinion) would be the best broker around. I have to give credit where it's due after being negative earlier.
