Maybe I'm wrong but didn't Paul Rotter also opened hedge positions (in the same pair) to get a better market feeling?

When the SNB intervened the EURCHF made a huge jump. What happened to the dealers, did they got any relevant information before that event or were they also caught on the wrong side? And how did they trade when the SNB put a peg at 1.20 ?
